zozzer   10 #3 Posted July 26, 2005 because they are work related they are not the same as gcse's A levels etc...  but i think a nvq 2 could be regarded as 1 or 2 A levels
 Share this content via...
cgksheff   44 #4 Posted July 26, 2005 Several sources including this one say:   NVQ Level 2 (Equivalent to Intermediate GNVQ or 4-5 GCSEs at grade A-C)  Some suggest it has equivalency to an A-level or a couple of AS-levels.  All say that there is no simple direct comparison between what is essentially a Vocational qualification and Academic ones.  What is subject/course is your NVQ in? SpiderPete   10 #5 Posted July 26, 2005 When you say a NVQ with 6 credits, is this a full NVQ or did you just complete certains units only ?  As far as I can remember NVQ2 = 5 GSCE`s  Dunno what a NVQ is equal to though.
 Share this content via...
Twiglet   10 #6 Posted July 26, 2005 I used to teach ECDL which is regarded as an NVQ 2, and it's considered equivalent to one GCSE grade A-C. It is GNVQ's which are considered equivalent to 4-5 GCSE's.  The same source linked to below states that: NVQ Level 2 is equivalent to a GCSE A-C grade
 Share this content via...
Classic Rock   10 #7 Posted July 27, 2005 If you haven't actually achieved the NVQ 2 and just have credits towards it then this isn't the full qualification. Stating the obvious I know.  You'd be considered to be at Entry level (NVQ 1) or thereabouts. I suggest completing it if you can to get the full accolade. extaxman   10 #8 Posted July 27, 2005 As everyone else has said you can't really compare NVQ's with GCSE's. It's like comparing an apple with a banana!  Anyway, this is my attempt:- NVQ level 1 = 2-3 GCSE's NVQ level 2 = 5-6 GCSE's NVQ level 3 = 1-2 A level's NVQ level 4 = Degree level NVQ level 5 = Masters degree level.  Where are all the people saying NVQ stands for Not Very Qualified - don't tell me we have finally got rid of them! cgksheff   44 #10 Posted July 28, 2005 National Open College Network. Losts of answers here: http://www.nocn.org.uk/learners/nocn-learners.html#levels  Basically, OCN Level are comparable to the equivalent NVQ Level so the earlier answers (at least the correct ones) still apply.  The 6 credits indicate the value of the learning that can then be used to gain access to further training/education (and can be recognised by employers). You can add up credits gained from other courses in order to reach the number required for university admission or similar.
 Share this content via...

yer_get_meh   10 #12 Posted June 26, 2006 oh dear, NVQ's are so easy its unbelievable, I have level 4 in Cust Services and also have a BA HOns degree...my degree was so much more difficult its untrue...whoever makes the comparisons do not know what they are on about! Like the drones who used to say BTEC's were the same as A levels, yet only the dumbo's took BTEC's, no offence like!
 Share this content via...
