Kos... Jumping off the top of a boat and losing my bikini... Beautiful, calm seas in a shade of blue I never knew existed... BBQs on a boat in the middle of the sea... The smell of the volcano on the trip to Nissyros (shed loads of rotten eggs)... The tickly feeling of being in the sea at the bubble beach... Not realising how hot it actually is because of that beautiful sea breeze...

We used to go to a different Greek Island twice each year in the 1990's.

I could never get to grips with putting used toilet paper in a bag though.

I love Greece. Corfu, Santorini, Crete and this year Kefalonia, my favourite so far. I've even been recreating some greek dishes after this years holiday. I can now make a mean kleftico, beef stifado and moussaka

First time I went to Greece we went on a coach trip to the mountans to a village and there was a building about 6 foot square with a big steel door on which was the toilet. Inside there was a normal pan and an empty wasing powder box to put the paper in, no cistern a tap on the wall above the toilet with a short piece of hosepipe on to flush the toilet.

The only Greek island I've been to is Corfu, which was a couple of years ago with some friends. It was our first holiday together and we had a fantastic time! Despite it being a holiday that mainly revolved around the beach (I'm not usually one to go on holiday just to sit on a beach all day - it's not me in the slightest) I still enjoyed myself and we'd just finished some exams so it was great to get away. I did get sunstroke though and ended up in bed for 2 days of the holiday (lesson well and truly learnt!!).

Still, long walks along the beach at night, gorgeous food (I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of veggie food there seemed to be), beautiful green scenery...lovely place.

Crete – First lads holiday. Rolled a jeep, only cuts and bruises but got plenty of fuss off the laydeeees. Trip to an ex-leper colony, drunken beach games, too much Retsina. Very memorable.

Athens - Hot, chaotic and mad but fantastic. Acropolis, Olympic stadium, blokes with big pompoms on their shoes
.
Paros – Very quiet, huge isolated beach to ourselves……nudge, nudge, wink , wink!! Lemon trees everywhere.

Naxos – Ok but nothing to write home about. Luckily we were only passing through and had 4 days there.

Mykonos – Very beautiful but full of poseurs and expensive (even in the 80's) Sea was so rough on boat trip to Delos that 90% of passengers were seasick.

Kos – Went very early in the season for my 30th, so was very quiet, Nissiros was brill. Luckily one of the two tavernas open was ace. Mmm, saganaki.

Kefalonia – Hottest weather I’ve ever had, loved the place. World Cup on. Flowers in bloom everywhere. Fiskardo is a must. Spoilt for lovely places to eat. Always promised myself to go back.

Corfu – Great family holiday. Drivers were mental. The most delicious lamb ever. Unbelievable thunder storm. Probably the friendliest place I’ve been.

Corfu2 – First holiday I took my daughter on after my divorce. Great fun despite the fact she cut her foot open on the first day………d’oh.

Halkidiki – Second holiday with the daughter. Didn’t venture much further than the pool tbh. Two chavs kicked off in the hotel one night…….but picked on the wrong bloke.

Zante – Brilliant place for families. Kids loved the shipwreck on the beach.
Popeyes restaurant. Goat stranded up a tree.

Zante2 – Liked it so much we decided to go back and get married there (wife no. 2) Everyone makes such a fuss of you. Taxi driver sang us a song on the way back to our hotel after the reception. No idea what it was about but sounded something like ‘ Whoopsy poopsy granny’

Nowhere I would rather be in the world than my friend's father's beach at Megalo Seitani, Samos. Damn near as perfect as the world gets.

Love the Islands. Been to Kos 6 times (Kefalos and Kardemena) and Crete 4 times . Also been to Zante and Corfu. If I had to pick the best it would be Kefalos on Kos . It's so quiet and laid back I was almost horizontal by the end of the holiday. The old village of Kefalos in the hills overlooking the beach resort is something not to miss. Wish I was still there !!!!

Wenham's "Elements", a large glass of wine and a battered copy of Thayer's.

First foreign holiday with wife via tour company Ventura to Paros.
Quiet hunk of rock, 6-hour ferry journey (awful toasted sandwiches and toilets), bus across island to even quieter place, Piso Livadi. Apartment and taverna c/o Nikitas and Nina - lovely couple and family, invited to Nikitas' birthday party and made to feel part of the family.

Dead quiet resort, ideal for newly married couple.
Coastal walk along village beach to huge expanse of nudist beach, almost empty.
Beach taverna, lunch, skinny dip, walk along beach drying off before getting dressed again.
Red hot sun and sand. Warm shallow water.
9-seater flight back into Athens - white knuckles.
No-one should have to suffer a crowded, hot Athens airport at night, though! Maybe it's been improved?

The new airport, Eleftherios Venizelos is beautiful.

Absolutely love Greece especially the people, been to Crete, Halkidiki, Thassos, Corfu, Skiathos and off to Zante next week for 11 days. Craig actually staying in Alykanas so any tips would be good. We have decided to make it our mission to visit each of the islands at least once before we die, fancying Kefalonia or Santorini next.
