HI I Danced here a few years before your'e dates 1943 /1948 during which time it was 3 times a week Mon Thurs and Sat nights with tea dances mid-week the resident band was Bernard Taylor's and a good band too, during the war years the place was snided with Yanks, and us poor working lads did'nt get much of a look in, l recall having a scuffle with one of them during a quick step,[ rock and roll was yet to come]he was drunk and persisted dancing the wrong way round the floor l had said to the girl l was was dancing with if he bumps into us i'll dot him one and next miuite l had to save face and dotted him, only on the shoulder, he had not only bumped into us, but knocked off my partners glasses, he tried to land me one and missed and landed on the coloured glass section[ that was there in those days] with me on top of him, we were both parted and escorted out by the MC Cyril Ball on to the pavement on Balm green we were both laughing by this time and l ended a good night in the Albert with him insisting on paying all night,. Ho to have those happy days again . Arthur. ps l hope the yank made it back home to Boston eventually.
