Over the summer, I’ve had to take some stick after politely suggesting that United wouldn’t be able to sustain their policy of low prices and high wage bill, well now it seems that someone at the Lane is seeing the same potential problem and that in order to resolve it, Blackwell has been told to reduce his wage bill.

But by how much, we all know big earners have left and a few on good money have come in, but what target has he been set. Last year the wage bill was reported as £10 million whilst Wednesdays was £5 million, this year Wednesday have reported increasing theirs to £6.4 million but what about United.

Do we reckon it will be reduced to Wednesday levels, or will the target be to turn the £3.5 million loss into a profit?

I would speculate a reduction of £2 million with a target of break even next year.

Trying to pick spots off Uniteds finances to deflect interest from wednesdays is becoming tedious.
Speculation is nonsense your obsessions also are.
How did you go on with the bullies at work?

dont think he's deflecting interest - i read the post before i checked who'd posted it (as usual) and assumed it was a blade who wrote it! seemes a good point to me, wonder if we'll see McCabe askign for more fans through the gates to help with the finances ala Strafford!!

i thought this was the main question? keeping killgallon doesnt neccessarily mean u havnt reduced your wage bill close to swfc's budget

SPECULATE ? WHO is speculating.

The thread is total nonsense by a man obsessed with the subject of the opositions finances.
The same as anyone trying to compare mccabe with stafford and his begging tactics.

thought u were quoting sommat i had said mate, well we all know that you have had to reduce your wage budget and we have increased ours so i think it would be interesting to see by how much united have reduced theirs, and if its close to ours, will be interesting to see if we are now working on a similair wage budget (although your ability to spend o players outweighs us considerably) and which manager will cope better with this amount

I don't think he has been TOLD to reduce the bill at all- but i think that if we have the oppertunity to reduce the bill then he has been told to take it.

For example- nicky law- not really made it into the first team, probably on 2k a week? We get rid of him- saving £104,000.

United had a very large squad and getting rid of the 10-12 players we did over the summer would have saved us alot of money. probably over a million.

We all know where the 'ignore' button is if someone is annoying you, that goes for both sets of fans.

Cheers

Are any of you blades a little concerned about your squad size? It wasn't the biggest before, but over the last few days you've seen another five players depart and only two come in.

It's a fine line between dead wood and strength in depth - your starting line-up is pretty much as good as anything in this division, but do you worry about the effect that a few injuries and/or suspensions could have? I don't see any cover at centre half now Bromby's gone, other than "makeshift" cover, i.e. playing fullbacks there?

The topic of this thread is,quite frankly, a load of garbage.
Does anyone, apart from titanic and the odd Owl fan, really give a care at all about it ?
Is there any point to it when any answer would be pure speculation ?

I agree- i think before we had quantity and not as much quality and at some points last season we had cover for every position with 2 or 3 players- now we are looking mighty short at the back and also up front.

Regarding the centre back point- walker by trade is a centre half- we only started playing him at left and right back because we needed cover when naughton got injured so he could slot in there if needed.
