John Logie Baird invented the television in the UK in 1926. Since then British built TV sets have been available to the home market. Not any more. The last British volume producer of televisions, Toshiba, is moving production to Poland with the loss of 270 British jobs.
Toshiba was one of many Japanese companies to set up production facilities in the UK between 1979 and 1997. But even with the £ at rock bottom against the Euro we can no longer compete.
Hi Phil. How's the job hunting going. Don't bother looking at a career in TV manufacturing.
I believe this is a case of mistaken identity. Still, if the jobs are moved to Poland it saves the Polish coming here to take them aye!
Always look on the bright side of life, di doo, di doo....if you dont know the words you may hum along.
It's the end of the world as we know it. When you bear in mind how many millions of us are employed making televisions in the UK I don't see how we'll ever recover from this shattering blow.

Well I am sure that the 270 people who are about to lose their jobs will be please to hear your view. One day it might be you.
It is another indication of Britain's innability to compete in what has become a global marketplace.
