I have serious problems with these things - and I'm sure they are getting bigger..there was one in our kitchen yesterday, must've been about 14cm (length). Shocking. Maybe it's the global warming...what an awful side effect

After several minutes (or what seemed like it) I realised it hadn't hurt me or wasn't likely to and managed to free my hand and remove it. Not only did I remove it, but I played with it for a while, I've been a fan ever since.

They really are quite beautiful and incredibly graceful.

Yes, I just had to bludgeon one to death with a chair. I normally just let them be, but it ate the cat.

Grilled, I'm on a diet and boiling dilutes the flavour

I've tried picking one up, which is a major feat for me (by the leg) - but didn't do the trick. Once - I was reasoning with myself when I saw a large dead one..so i inched closer...then a bit closer ...then i poked it...and then..THIS REALLY BIG MOMMA OF A LIVE ONE shot out from behind it and shocked the hell out of me

I seriously think they know the effect they have on people and do it on purpose. Spider humour leaves a lot to be desired

I believe I've seen the footage of this alleged attack and it still looks to me like you were harrassing the spider.

I'm not very familiar with all these metric measures but I just looked at a bi-lingual ruler and 14cm is about five and a half inches.

So I guess you're right - spiders are getting bigger

We have some biggies in the shed but I doubt any of them are longer than two inches.

Maybe they are getting bigger are maybe the weather has pushed the bigger giants indoors for warmth and security. I don't like spiders, I don't know why, I know they can't hurt me but they creep me out. Saying that I prefer them to bluebottle flies which seem to be everywhere at the moment. I don't like killing spiders I try my best to be brave with the glass and card technique. But sometimes my cat gets there before me
