Massive own goal Bradford City

David Dowse from Bradford city says "under health and safety grounds if a sweet was to hit someone in the eye it could cause some injury to them "

You'd probably be the 1st to scream if your kids eye was put out.

Alternatively you could just hand them out on the turnstyles.

The world stopped with this news...anyone feel it?

Mr Dowse said last season a boy fell and was hurt when there was a surge for promotional goods being thrown into the crowd.
A child was hurt last year because of it.

Quote:
Mr Dowse confirmed Mr Berry had also been asked to refrain from lifting up his shirt on the pitch as it provoked chants and swearing from some sections of the crowd. He said: “He’s been asked not to do anything which leads to abusive chants. We have to make sure that we are a stadium where youngsters and older people enjoy coming and one of the things we are looking at is bad language.”
And when his presence whether he was lifting his shirt up (???) or just standing there was to provoke abusive chanting...

Then I think the decision is defensible while they work out what they can do with him that is popular and doesn't cause children to get hurt.

in that case all children should be banned from football grounds in case they hear swearing

Evertons toffee lady has been throwing toffees into the crowd for over 100 years. There have been no reported injuries, but her arm is getting pretty tired.

Is there even any evidence the mascot is popular? I would have thought that if standing still, incites abusive chants from his sides fans it would be an indication of disapproval.

I'd have thought you of all people would have been strongly in favour of health and safety rules,it's quite obvious you've been hit on the head with a few heavy objects over the years.

Shouldn't be surprised if it was the do gooder, Guardian reading, liberal, handwringing, elite who are behind this move?

He doesn't go to Hillsborough - so I've heard. He's a true hardcore Wednesday fan.

It's more likely that it's the greedy, let's sue anybody for as much we can and there's no such thing as an accident brigade, who are responsible for this decision.

If a child - or adult - was injured by a sweet, they would no doubt head to the nearest no win, no fee solicitor and sue the football club for thousands. And their insurance probably wouldn't cover the payout, either, because they could argue the club should have carried out a risk assessment!!

Health and Safety prevents countless young familes from having to bury the dad 'cos he was expected to die for a pittance every year.

Would you happily go back to such times, to prevent your occasional tabloid-glory misuse/misreport of it?

I could agree with that reason but for one thing. At football games everyone behind the goals (usually kids and parents) are in danger of having a large leather ball thunder past the post at 100mph into their face. Surely that's just as much a risk? Perhaps Bradford should ban football as well.
