That old ZX Spectrum game character has been appearing in original paintings deposited on the river sidings of the Bridge (near The Bridge Inn) on Chesterfield Road.

A convoluted sentence regardless - is this a Heeley thing or have people spotted it elsewhere?

Anybody know who's responsible as I'd like one of these for my house?

Bring on Jet Set Willy!

ps/ will try and get some pics on my way to work tomorrow.

Cool! Sounds like a variation of the "Space Invaded" tile mosaics around Manchester.

Heh, he's made it as far as Chesterfield road, has he? First occurrance I saw of him was the cemetary wall, down by the stream on frog lane. He's spread a fair bit since then, there's been four or five of him in the frog lane area.

He keeps cropping up in different formats, propped up on a piece of board, or painted on a smashed mirror and nailed to a tree. I quite like it.

Also, in a drawer?

I've found a couple of photos of good ol' Horace hanging around Sheffield on flickr - one in Endcliffe Park and on the photo stream there are a couple of others. I haven't made enough posts to put up a link, but if you Google 'Hungry Horace Endcliffe Park' it'll bring up the pictures. Aah nostalgia!

Trying to be the new Banksy, certainly. I don't think spectrum characters are quite enough like whiny socialist satire to be Banksy. It's too cheering.

For those of you too young to remember Horace:
Horace goes skiing
Hungry Horace

And just because it was my favourite game
Manic Miner

I went to school with the brothers that were responsible for manic miner and hungry horace, chris kerry and his older brother were the designers when they were programmers for Gremlin graphics aged 15 and 16 . Both went to Jordanthorpe school and made a mint from gremlin.

Is it sad that that quite impresses me in a geeky kind of way?

Good story. Except of course I think Chris and his brother must have been pulling your leg on that score.

Manic Miner was written by Matthew Smith and released by Bug Byte.
All the Horace games were written by William Tang and released by Beam Software and Melbourne House.

Anyway, pedantry aside, here's a photo taken from the bridge.
