did a search on forum but we don't seem to have a (Mega?)thread on wisdom, unless there is a special interest group maybe
given the propensity to put such stuff in sigs I wonder why that would be
thanks to Digsy sig for prompting this, it made me feel better about taking redundancy from my team as offering potential and not a scary threat. I reckon I may even use it in my leaving card to the team :-
"I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death.- (Leonardo Da Vinci) "

I love the whole of Kiplings 'If', but there is one verse that is very apt for me at the moment and the one line gave me the strength in the darkest hour of my life so far...
"If you can bear to hear the truth you have spoken,
Twisted by knaves and made a trap for fools,
If you can see what you have given your life to, broken,
and stoop, and rebuild with worn out tools"

Many people grow old wishing they'd spent more time with their children;
no one grows old wishing they'd spent more time at work.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes. But don't ever, EVER make the same mistake twice.

use this when I am teaching people to give and recieve feedback - it is Japanese I believe
If a man tells you you are a horse, then thank them politely
If a second man tells you you are a horse, then give it some thought
If a third man tells you you are a horse, you should buy a saddle

yeah I have a concern with this one too
I know the spirit of what it is trying to say but it doesn't reflect individual difference
for example - I like people do be direct with me, get it out in the open and talk about it. I have collegues who cannot deal with that and see it as confrontational
which leads me to another favourite that I use a lot in my work
"there is always more than one 'right answer' "
