Anyone else go to these schools?

I started at the infant school around 1976 and left for Thornbridge around 1984. In the infants I remember the anual football match between 4th year infants & Southey Green school. I also recall in the first year of the infants, whizzing around the classroom on a wooden tractor and trailer, and making things out of pieces of wood and glue.

Some of the teachers I remember are;

Infants

Mrs Club
Mrs Dalton
Mrs Moore
Mrs Beadham
Mrs Bradbury
Mrs Creasey?

Juniors

Mrs Wright
Female teacher in wheelchair?
Mr Hayes
Mr Lister

Anyone remember any other teachers or pupils?

I attended Charnock Hall Junior School from 1955 to 57 a few years before you Warpig. Don't remember any of the teachers' names but somewhere I have a letter of encouragement from my final class teacher after I failed the 11+ exam. Subsequently moved on to Frecheville Secondary. One thing I do remember is being taken to Staveley outdoor swimming pool for swimming lessons. Can't say I learnt to swim there ; it was freezing!

I started at charnock much later (1990-1997) then went to birley (thornbridge) 1997-2002)

But I still had Mrs Beedham for my first year, and mrs club for my second.

Mrs Bellamy only left 2 years ago, and mrs wright not much before that- who also taught my dad in the 70's.

Ive bumbed into Mr Jarvis a couple of times in the last year, and he hasnt changed much in appearance.

I can clearly remember playing in the 4th year infant school annual football match against Southey Green school. It was always played behind the 'new block' at the junior school.

Add Mr Pope to the list of junior school teachers I remember. Although he left soon after I started as he went blind.

I also remember going on the junior school annual one week trip to Hagg Farm Hostel, on the Snake Pass, which I think Mr Pope would have organised as he was very much the outdoor type.

And the dreaded weekly swimming lessons at Hurlfield School swimming baths. Did anyone else walk in the shallow end when doing their half mile swim? Despite the training they gave us, Ive never since had the need to rescue a rubber brick whilst wearing my pyjamas!

Happy memories

They didnt do the week away trip when I was in year 6, they couldnt afford it. It was gutting when every other year went

and the still did the swimming lessons like that, fetching a rubber ring thing from the bottom of the pool. Unfortunately the lessons were wasted on me, since I have a fear of water. dreaded it every week for 11 weeks..

Mr Pope went blind??? Mr Clarke died!!! Who knows anything else??? I need more info on Mr pope. He was always giving someone the slipper. He taught me in the terrapins and it was cooold in there. And if you ever got the 'you boy, come here' you KNEW it was slipper time (which he kept on display on top of the blackboard)

Terrible days schooldays were - lol

Teachers I remember (in addition to those posted):

Mr Padley (with the pens in his top pocket)
Mr Jarvis (deputy head when I was there)
Mrs Lacey-Hatton
????? hmmm - leave it with me for a bit - lol

I returned to play a gig at the school in the 80's and Mr Jarvis asked us to call him by his first name (can't remember it though) It's funny isn't it, but Mr xxx or Miss xx from school will always be remembered and addressed formally even into our adult hood. I remember bumping into Mr Cutts (my english teacher at Thornbridge) in the 90's ( I was in my 30's) and he was having a pint in a bar, and I chatted to him and it took several minutes before he asked me stop calling him Mr Cutts - my name's Bob he said to me - lol

Yes I remember Mrs Lacy-Hatton, she taught in the infant 4th year along with Mrs Bradbury.

The name Mr Cutts rings a bell but I cant place his face. Was he the drama teacher at Thornbridge?

The name Mrs Noaks comes to mind, was she an infant school teacher?

Mr Clarke was a funny guy. Didnt like religion as a subject but I liked him. He always had a mug of water on his desk and claimed Sheffield water to be the best. When he refered to any angels in the bible he would stand on his desk and jump off, whilst flapping his arms as if flying!

My grandson who now attends Charncok School has recently brought home a form and to celabrate 60 yrs of Charnock school. They are asking for any former pupils 1949 - 2009 to get in touch as they are compling memories and photgraphs taken to display in school for the local community and I am sure that any memories you have would be warmly accepted if you contact them.
My memory is not too good but I can remember Mr Jarvis ( assistant head at the time) and being in Mr Roberts class in the hall, we used to take it in turn to take the Gerbils home in the holidays. Also thornbridge School, Mr Clarke and Mr Hunt - I was in the Jazz band there and used to play the double bass - what looks I used to get taking this home to practice on the bus. Also Our year going on the French exchange to Aloncon ( think this is how it was spelt) with the Westfield gang ). Happy memories

I went to Charnock from around 1969-1973 (Mr Smith, Mrs Oglespy, Mrs Goudie, Miss Bellamy - for 2 years), then Thornbridge 1973-1977.

I remember almost all the teachers mentioned above (and their first names!). I also have a claim to fame as being the first at Charnock to ge the slipper from Mr Pope. Actually it was the flat of his hand. Three of us were pushing each other as we lined up to go in to class at the end of break. We all got called up, told to "Bend over and touch you're toes". I was the first in the line, we'd have been out of view from the rest of the school due to the wall above the playground, but they'd have all heard us.

As I got older, I got to know Mr Pope and his wife much more. Great bloke, he took us on walks in Derbyshire to all kinds of places that I took my own kids too 20 years later. Anyone also remember his 3 wheeler Bond, a bit like a Reliant Robin?

My son and friends went to Charnock school from about 1980, it was a nice school. Mrs Bradbury was my sons teacher and she was a lovely woman, she understood that boys did not pay attention and fidgeted!

Ha, Yes, I went on that same trip. Remember that castle place where water shot out of silly places and just about everyone got wet? I found the place on youtube by accident once and stuck a couple of clips in my favorites. Search for Schloss Hellbrunn Wasserspiele.

Jarvo's son supposedly got pi ss ed and ate half a bar of soap!!!
