The new inner ring road seemed to working well. Trip times to work went down. Then...

Down by Rosbys and Europcar coming from Penistone road there are 2 sets of lights. One feeds into the other which is the right turn up to Broad Lane.

It used to go one green, the other green and so on. They have now changed the lighting sequence so you go green on the first set, green on the first set again. Green on the second set. (2 for 1). This is pointless because the second green can't go anywhere because of the traffic that hasn't moved before hand.

The results so far this week are. Cars sneeking up the bus only gate to get to the same island. Cars trying to cut in to jump the queue and a queue of traffic back to the Penistone Rd island.

Until they messed with it, it worked perfectly. You can always trust Sheffield planners to cock up anything. Even something that originaly worked has been changed so it doesn't function.

Well done

I noticed that too- also when the road goes round the corner at the bottom of corporation street they have altered the lights sequence so that cars that want to go right and turn onto the road that leads to the wicker they now have to que- so in effect the main route out of sheffield is reduced to 1 lane while they wait to turn right.

Well done sheff council- another great idea.

They've obviously let the YTS loose on the planning again. Where do they get these people. Is it a case of "i better do something to prove i'm needed" even if that means breaking something that didn't need touching.

its so so stupid!!

Its like they got a buy one get one free offer on traffic lights so they decided to see how many they could fit in a 1/2 mile stretch of road.

If they have changed a sequence of lights then I'd be rather more interested to know why they've done it. Would one of the people who use this area and so are griping like to ring or e-mail the highways department and ask for an explanation and then let us all know what they've said.
Thanks

I've already asked the question of the Council's Traffic Information & Control group, who manage and operate the traffic signals. I'll let you know what they say.

The situation described was caused by a fault in a timing plan at one of the junctions.

The fault has now been corrected.

Traffic signals are a device like any other and faults can develop. Anyone noticing a traffic signal problem can call Streetforce on 2736666 to report it. The Council have procedures in place which ensure that faults are dealt with very promptly.

Reporting the fault to the right people would perhaps be a more productive course of action than posting snide comments about planners on here.

We prefer dragging stupid planners in the dirt for what they're worth. When planners, builders, local authorities or pirate associations use public money badly, their names, jobs, companies, organisations are named and shamed, repeatedly to the point of breaking the persons. At some point, the persons will get the message and stop missusing public money. This is anyone who partakes in activities that include installing speed bumps, more traffic lights, reducing speed limits, not maintaining public highway. always the pencil pushers, the no-gooders ruining it for the people.

The solution would have been never to have installed (so many) traffic lights on this new supposedly fast road. Streetforce do not repairs lights when informed contrary to your comments above.

might as well just stop there, the council seems to be becoming more and more anti car trying to put us all onto unreliable public transport. If your journy time improved, unless its going via a planners house or office you can be sure it was a mistake
