I think i have lost all my pictures on my pc.

I dont know how but i cant find them after searching several times and the pictures folder has disapeared.

does anyone know how to retreive them?

I deleted an empty folder but then I noticed it started to delete other pictures so I clicked cancel and now I cant find any.

First step:

Have a look in your "Recycle Bin".

Then use Recuva asap (use the wizard and search for pictures) and do a deep scan. Tell it to look for non deleted files as well.

The longer you delay, the harder it will be to get back deleted files.

Recover them from your backup. Well, if you have one. If you don't then let everyone know - adding how important the pictures were and how much you'll miss them as your sickener may be be another's saviour as it will encourage them to maintain such.

Have you accidentally dragged the 'My pics' folder into another folder at the side of it?

Have you logged on as a different type of user, this will hide the original user's documents.

The description you gave of deleting an empty folder, which then started to delete other pictures, is very unusual. Can you be more specific.

If you've done a soft delete, they are in your recycle bin - if activated! If you have done a permanent delete, you need recovery software to get them back.

Good Luck

No they havent gone into another folder they have gone.

I cant descripe in any detail what happened as it was so quick. Large files dont automatically go into the recycle bin but the pc does usually state that before you click the button.

I have used the recuva.com site and I have manged to get some pictures back although not all of them. Still looking through the thousands of files................ long job

Thanks to everyone for the help and information.

A good lesson to learn......... always always always back things up
