Hey

Wondered if you had any induction stories, good or bad, esp those induced at 38wks ish?

Due to go in at 11.30, am very nervous!

Why were you induced?
What did they do to induce you?
Did it work/fail?
What happened!

HELP!
xxxx

Oh FANTASTIC! I have been thinking about you all day!

I was induced because of SPD
I was given a sweep, then went back 2 days later. I was given a pessary and contractions started 10 minutes later.
I've actually been induced 3 times, and never failed once

Given the passary, stuck to a monitor for an hour. Labour progressed very quickly and contractions were very strong. Delivered vaginally all 3 times with no major issues.

most of all

GOOD LUCK!

I was induced and didn't find it a very pleasant experience but I think it all depends on how much they have to do. If all you had was the pessary I think it would be ok. I had to have that, then they broke my waters then I was put on the hormone drip. I found contractions were unbearable almost immediately and I had an epidural. My midwife explained that as there is no build up, your body does not have time to get used to the pain and most people will end up having an epidural. I didn't want one and I was a bit upset about it but I had a fairly normal delivery and we were both ok at the end of the day.

Good luck with it all.

Hi guys!

Thanks.. I went not expecting induction, really expected to be offered induction on EDD or maybe 41wks, and maybe offered a girdle or something!!??
He didn't question me, I was so shocked, he asked me if I wanted it, I said yes, and there we go.

I am worried as have read on here about them being busy and being left for days before they do anything.
I really don't want that to happen because it will use DP's paternity leave up and also I will miss DD like crazy. But I am grateful for the offer, as I dint expect it at alllllllllll.

He said they monitor you, examine you and then see if they can break your waters. If not then they insert a tampon like thing (?) and wait upto 24hrs. If nothign happens then maybe the Dr. on duty will send me home, just have to wait.

I am so nervous and didn't ask much more info.

Annie- Thanks for the well wishes, I am so nervous!

Peaches- thanks.. I hope it goes smoothly like yours! I just keep thinking as I am only 38+3 tomorrow, that it may not work. Or just that I will be left for days and be upset.

Corbyn- I read your story on here before I think, ouch not my ideal. Last time I had contractions for HOURS and was still not in established labour. Then they stopped then started again more than 19hrs later. I had Kapake, Morphine, G&A and epidural. I loved the epidural after such a long tiring labour but it was another 12hrs before DD came and am sure that epidural slowed it down. I just hope things go ok! So nervous!

Hi, I had an induction (overdue) I was 41+3. They inserted a pessery at 5pm on the monday, sent me up to the ward at 7.30pm. I woke up at 5am with pains, went down to labour suite at 8.30am, started G+A at 9am, 1pm had epidural as they knew there were complications, and got rushed for a csection at 2.45pm, Charlie was born at 2.56pm. 22 hours it took, but ,maybe cause they got involved. The pessery didnt hurt one bit, a relative told me she had to have G+A to help with it, and I was bricking myself, turns out, it didnt hurt one bit!!! Bit uncomfy but my god, G+A wasnt even in the question! Ive probably posted this a little late, but good luck x

I think every induction is different a bit like pregnancy and birth.

I was induced in 2006 at 40 weeks - I had an appointment with the consultant to discuss but because I had leaked amniotic fluid I was booked in day after-for induction - consultant did a sweep there and then and said I was 2 centimeters not had any pain what so ever.

Went in to be induced which started with the pessary (spelling not good) nothing happened after about an hour so they tried breaking waters 5 times (this was painful) but nothing happened so went straight onto the drip.

Unlike previous poster (Corbyn) I didn't get any pains as such and managed with no pain relief for about 6 hours. After the 6 hours I was still on 2 centimeters so the dose given through the drip was signed off twice by the doc (I think it had something to do with the stupid mw not letting me stand up) the G&A was more for the back ache from being laid down to contractions.

After about 15 hours with a massive dose of the drip I was still only 2 centimeters so after speaking with the new MW who had got me up to try a move things along so more or less hinted it looked like it would result in a c section.

Because of this I decided to go for the epidural and yes I ended up with a section but was very chilled throughout the process.

BTW if dp has any leave use this before starting paternity leave if you can because you may end up being in for a couple of days and you will need him when you get home so he could still go to work until you actually come home.

I was induced at 37 weeks due to gestational diabetes and it was a fantastic experience, my best labour so far (my third!). My waters were broken at 12pm, and then when nothing was happening at 3pm they started me on the drip. It took a couple of hours for contractions to start (they had to turn the drip up very high as it took so long to get going). I managed without any pain relief until 10pm, then started with the tens machine, and gas and air an hour later. When I needed to start pushing they took them both off me and I ended up giving birth without anything, definetely preffered as I remember everything about her birth, I forgot quite a bit of the other two!
I'm not sure whether it was because I was induced, or because of the diabetes but I ended up in a private room afterwards

Oh I forgot to add, take a book or a magazine, if they are quite busy you'll have to wait a bit to get started and it can get quite boring!

Hey everyone!
I am home. A little girl born at 6.57pm on Sunday 29th March!

I will try and be short as I am tired and should be asleep!

Went in Friday 11am ish, mtaken into an induction room on the ward and monitored etc. Examined at 12.45 ish and she said my cervix wasn't favourable for waters breaking, something about she could feel I was 1cm dilated but not properly dilated? As in she could get her finger in but it wasn't open on it's own, just soft but really posterior and thick. So I was given Propress (weird little cotton thing on a string), and told it may take upto 24hr to work. Well, after 24hrs nothing had happened. Dp went home Friday night, same back Saturday morning. After the Propess was removed at 12.45, the MW examined me and had to get a Dr. to come check to see how my cervix was. A lovely lady Dr. came and said she would be able to break the waters. I got all packed and ready, to find there were no beds (Dr. mentioned on way out there were). Was told to wait until 9pm ish. At about 9.45pm was told still too busy but DP and I were moved to a different induction room with a sofabed so he could stay in case a room on labour ward came free. It didn't, and I was told Sunday morning they were still busy. I was getting very upset by this point and remembered how people said on here about waiting for days. Anyway I was ranting away to myself when the MW and a MW from labour ward came in the get me. Off we went. About 11am I had my waters broke by the same Dr. who examined me the day before, as MW said she couldn't understand my notes as Dr. had written cervix still high, thick, closed which usually means they can't do it. Anyway she did it and I was left 2hrs to see if anything happened, which it didn't. At 1pm I was put on the drip with the dosage doubled half-hourly and finally by 3pm ish I was feeling things. BY 3.30pm they were coming fairly strong, every 2 mins and I went onto the G&A. By 5pm I had asked for an epidural. I was going to have to wait as they were busy doing other ladies and in theatre but he came to give me one. I was examined just before and found to be 2cm, still thick, so we thought it would be some time, hours evenm for things to get going. I had the epidural and after 20+ mins could still feel uncomfortable with every contraction although not as bad. He inhected some stronger stuff into the epi. pipe and I was ok. DP went for food, and while he was gone thr MW noticed with every contraction baby's heart rate was dropping. She wasn't ue to examine me until 9pm but they told her to check now. She did, and drained my bladder for me, and found me to be ready for pushing! DP was (just) back by this point! I knew it as I felt open and heavy down there, which is odd cuz you are numb from the pain but still aware of things, not totally numb. Same as with my other daughter really, I was found to be fully dilated and ready for go yet because I wasn't due to be checked for another hour or two, she didn't bother to until baby's heart rate dropped and she asked Dr's.
Anyway I pushed about 3 times, panted and baby was born just before 7pm! Cord twice around her neck bless her. Weighed in at 6lb 6oz, at 38+5 so 9 days early. Maybe even 38+1 if I go by my original dates!
Back upto ward about 10pm and let out yesterday.

So anyway... birth was better than my first just cuz first was so long and slow (natural), and I have 2 beatiful daughters now who I love to bits, eldest is loving being a big sis!

It is true- you are waiting a lot but I guess they can't help who goes into labour and when so it is frusrating all the same. All the MW's were great and the Dr who broke my waters, which was nice. The drip is bloody strong, wow! Credit to anyone who does it with that with no epidural, I would have passed out with pain I am sure!

Thanks everyone!
Night night xx
