I use CBFSMS.com, its free and useful when it works, as quite a bit of the time the system appears to be down.

That looks useful, but I can't use it till I'm back in mobile phone range as the system relies on sending you a code by text to register.
"Please enter your mobile number and click continue. We will then instantly text you a code to use for registration. You can register any mobile phone for any network."
You used to be able to send SMS messages from the BT website if you register. The web page is quite hard to find, I will look for it and post the URL here if I find it.
