I have somehow downloaded a virus onto my Dell laptop, i have windows XP, i also have Avast antivirus which i have been using for several years with no probs, but now it is infected i am getting allsorts of web sites connecting up, i have tried scanning with my Avast but it is not deleting the virus, i think it may be called ANYKUY but i'm not sure, but something that has been downloaded keeps tellng me i have a security problem.
i have also tried running malwarebytes anti malware, but with no sucess.
Thanks in advance for any advice

Try a System Restore to a time before you got infected.

Seems you're not the only one with this in recent days. A quick Google of ANYKUY brought up lots of people with the problem and no definate fix. Might be worth trawling through the results yourself to see if there have been any updates and/or a fix for it.
