If this generation are finding it hard (or almost impossible) to provide housing for their partner/wife where are the next or indeed future generation going to be brought up - will it affect the population as fewer couples will have children?

do you think that will mean more single mothers bringing up children, or whole families living on benefits and that includes being given housing?

I suppose, for the foreseeable future, this is going to be a problem in Western [ or international ? ] societies, in general i.e. people are living in smaller 'groups '. The old situation in the U.K. of a married couple with, say, 3 children, living in the same house, is fairly quickly, losing ground.

With that trend, plus the increase in our population, the problem WILL get worse, unless some future government comes up with some radical ideas. Either that, or perhaps a few million more people will emigrate.......and leave those behind with at least a bit of a chance to have their own living space, in their little Eden ! Rule Britannia....etc.....

In the future, people will have disintegrated families, and separate families living together like one family, and people may share resources, and so forth. There will be a higher number of single men living on their own and alone. I think there may also be a higher increase in licensed prostitution too. Kids will be raised via maintenance fees. Or state benefits. People will be reluctant to work abroad where there are work. The rice versus poor divide will be so much higher because of older socialist values versus the globalisation phenomena.

[Added] I think I've been reading too much of the SF, I've become a forum cynic!

You can bring up a baby in a bedsit, although I think it's illegal for a child to share a room with an adult once they reach a certain age. In the nineteenth century, whole families would live in a single room, sometimes large families. In the future, perhaps couples will start their families in those tiny flats that are available now, and hope they can afford a house by the time their children get too big.

I'm sure that in our Totalitarian Democracy the politicians will provide an answer.

I find that in my area, young adults are still living at home well in to their twenties - and the number of cars in the drives have increased, at least three cars to a house is quite common.
