wonders if its to do with the snow which has been forecast? Thats the only reason i can think of but if that is the case then i think people go over the top with panic buying etc.

Sainsbury's archer road was like this, people were swearing at me as I tried to get out of my parking bay as I was holding them up. I only managed a small shop, I could not face it. It was teaming with TOGs. I assume they did not feel it was safe to go out and about on their own last week, or they were waiting for a thaw.

It might not be panic buying, but people who were unable to go on their usual day/evening going on other days instead, so adding to the usual numbers. Think about last week - several days were no-go for shopping for most - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday.

I'm finding the bags thing amusing

We did our Christmas shop pretty much without accepting any plastic bags off any shop

I got two (okay, they're a bit hideously pink) Co-op cotton ones, but they're a fantastic size and shape, and they pack really easily with about two carrier bags worth of shopping in. They now live in the car, and I've got two more - besides the Tesco cool bags we've had for donkey's years

The lady at the checkout said that when the blue ones had run out, Asda would start charging for the plastic bags.

It was pretty busy in Asda!! We left about 11.30, I told my OH if we went early it wouldn't be as busy (as he hates it)... how wrong I was!!!

Shelves didn't seem to be short of supplies though... although the people queued in front and behind me both seemed to have trollies full of alcohol!?!? Not quite the milk & loaf supplies you'd expect!

5 loaves at a time, i just looked up 'panic buying' and, yup, thats the exact definition!!!!!

Morrisons, lidl etc all were quiet, why battle the crowds at asda when it's like that? There are other stores.
