I've seen cycling policeman, but today was a first, a cyclist bombing down Middlewood Road, with panniers with ambulance on the side. Must be the new rapid response cyclist because there was not room to carry a passenger. Now that's a job I don't envy.

they're usually city centre models - perfect for busy pedestrianised areas

The cycle response paramedics are based at Middlewood station but work in the city centre, cycling in at start of shift. I don't think they're intended to carry patients...

its a great idea, think how long it would take an ambulance in this weather in rush hour to get to you if you needed a paramedic? bring me the doc on the bike anyday if he/she gets there quicker

The type of weather we've been having lately isnt kind to any vehicles of the two wheeled variety.

I was talking to the bike chap on Monday and he said he wasn't having any problems because the council had done such a good job gritting and clearing!

It's not that bad at all. At least when you're on a bike - the slowest you can go is walking pace. I didn't see many cars moving much faster than that this morning.

The bikes are brilliant aren't they?! Ideal for busy city centres and pedestrianised areas. When a rapid response is required a first responder can literally make the difference between life and death - probably most commonly in heart attack cases. And environmentally friendly too! It's amazing they're only a relatively recent introduction. Can't be great in bad weather though, but it must keep them fit too!
