Behind Owlerton stadium there is a small racetrack were for £25 you can have a go on a speedway bike on a saturday afternoon. If you go don't forget to leave your brains behind there are no brakes.

I do a fair bit of karting and must say that Sheffield isn't particularly well served for it.

There's Parkwood up near the Ski slope, but it's too expensive and last time I went there they were stopping 'arrive and drive' sessions, as well as regular group bookings.

There's an indoor place off the Parkway on the Attercliffe side. It's near Macro and the old Yorkshire Electricity building. Looks OK but never driven there.

Further afield things are a bit more fun. The best local-ish place (IMO) is Amen Corner near Edwinstowe (out towards Worksop). They have a good size proper asphalt outdoor track with overtaking opportunities and a couple of ars*-clenching corners. They also got well maintained twin-engined karts that get up to a fair old speed. And it's not expensive either.

There are some good places in Leicestershire too, but that's probably a bit far.

Avago in Rotherham isn't very good. I've only been once, but it's possible to drive a full lap without lifting or braking, which is lame

I went the the one near Makro the other week and it was great. £25 for 50 laps. Well worth it in my eyes.

To defend avago a little I've been a couple of times and the track changed between the two, you definately couldn't get round it without lifting either time, and both times you were quicker if you used the brakes a bit; not a whole lot mind.

SPEEDY JIM,

COULD YOU PM ME THE DETAILS IN FULL FOR THE TRACK NEAR EDWINSTOWE IF YOU HAVE THEM AS I HAVE MATES AT WORK WHO ARE PRESSING ME TO ARRANGE A RACE EVENT.

I WENT TO ONE AT SPRINT MOTORSPORT LAST MONTH WHICH IS IN THE OLD INMAN ELECTRICAL WAREHOUSE AT THE PARKWAY MARKETS AND IT WASNT BAD.
IT WAS A CHARITY EVENT ORGANISED BY IRWIN MITCHELLS SOLICITORS.

IT SEEMED TO GET A LITTLE DARK AS THE NIGHT DREW ON AND WE HAD A FEW NEAR MISSES WITH DRIVERS WHO WOULD JUST DART ACROSS TO TAKE THE CORNER, OTHERWISE NOT TOO BAD.

WE USED TO TRAVEL IN THE PAST AND HAVE A DAYS WORTH OF RACING AT A PLACE JUST BELOW NEWARK CALLED ANCASTER KARTING WHO HAVE A WEB SITE TO HAVE A LOOK AT AND THAT WAS A MASSIVE OUTDOOR TARMAC TRACK WITH SOME GOOD CORNERS ON IT.

THEY ARE BASED DOWN BELOW THE PFI RACEWAY WHICH IS THE LARGE TRACK CONNECTED TO PAUL FLETCHERS RACING TEAM AND THAT TRACK IS AMAZING.

ALSO HAVE RACED AT AVAGO IN THE PAST BUT FOUND IT A LITTLE TOO SMALL AND THE STEWARDS WOULDNT LET YOU ORGANISE YOUR OWN PIT STOP CALLS SO YOU HAD TO WAIT FOR THEM TO CALL YOUR DRIVER IN.

TAZMAN

Sorry about that Speedy Jim.

I didnt mean to shout, I just forgot to knock off the Caps Lock button and another fellow forumer also got in touch with me and mentioned about the shouting bit.

Not having been on here that long, I was a little ignorant about proper etiquette but Im getting there.

I got the pm and it might end up starting a lot of interest back up at my work if I let the right people see the website.

Cheers,

Tazman.
