Chesterfield were last week 20 minutes away from a 2-0 win at non league Droylsden when the floodlights failed-causing a second abandonment after the first game at Saltergate was abandoned due to fog (and the replay was drawn).Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson said on RS he thought Chesterfield should have been awarded the tie due to such little time left in the game:.(The 1st game had only gone @30 mins). What I want to know is why the replayed game couldn't have started at the 70 minute mark-making it fair to both sides(and free entry to fans).

Simply put, there are pre-determined rules for abandoned matches that apply equally to all, therefore games cannot simply resume some days later from the point at which they were interrupted.
However, I do feel some sympathy for Chesterfield tonight. The key thing is the visibility factor. The first game at Chesterfield was abandoned due to the visibility being only a few yards with Droylsden leading 1-0. The 2nd game had that sportsmanship factor with Chesterfield allowing Droylsden to equalize after Jack Lesters' dodgy goal from the pass-back. The 3rd game at Droylsden was abandoned due to floodlight failure with less than 20 minutes to go with Chesterfield leading 2-0. Their manager was quoted as saying that the visibility wasn't a problem as not all the lights went out and it seemed OK (to the referee) to keep the players on the pitch and the crowd in the stands for well over 20 minutes, but not OK to play out the game.
I suspect that the story of this cup-tie is going to remain in the spotlight (no pun intended) for a little while longer.

There should be a rule that a match is considered OFFICIAL and stands as a result after an hour.
If the match doesn't make it to the 60 minute mark they replay it.
Totally different sport but in a full baseball game they play 9 innings, after 5 1/2 innings its OFFICAL.
Surely the brains at the FA could come up with something, but then again maybe not

Now there's an oxymoron if ever there was one.
Brains and FA linked together.

isnt it funny how the f.a can come down hard on small clubs like droylsden and in previous years bury and throw them out of the f.a cup for fielding an ineligable player for one game, yet west ham did it for a full season and get a fine. its disgusting how the smaller clubs get treated.

I doubt £30m will be spent on new players but we won't have any debt and will have enough money to pay decent wages.
£30m will come in very useful whichever way you try and dress it up

As I've said on the general sports thread, Droyelsden manager Dave Pace is an utterly loathesome turd of a man and I'm glad his side haven't progressed.

Well done Chessie, the game where 1 of the floodlights went out should have carried on anyway, the visability was better than the 45 minutes of fog they managed to play in the game before.
I hope they give Ipswich a good tousing, there well backable aswell, what with them having nowt to lose.
