There was a story in the Star last night (which i cant find on the website) about a girl getting a suspension from school for not wearing the right shoes as part of the uniform. She was supposed to wear sensible smart black shoes- she wore black UGG boot types and was constantly reprimanded. Of course the parent is kicking off - her poor child is being victimised - and theres the parent and childs photo in the story with obligatory discruntled / attitude look on their faces holding the offending boots.

This is where some children get their attitude problems from. Sad, pathetic angry mother blaming everyone and anything but themselves for the pathetic life she no doubt leads.

I feel sorry for the headteacher dealing with this most needless of problems

Funnily enough heres a similar story from the same school back in April..

http://www.thestar.co.uk/headlines/P...for.3989415.jp

The schools response is almost word for word the same. They obviously have to use it a lot!

As I've just said on another thread why blame the parents and not the parents, parents. How far back through the generations does this all go? The main cause is the breakdown of respect that should be instilled into kids and that is not only the responsibility of the parents, it's the responsibility of everyone particularly the schools if the child isn't getting appropriate guidance from home. Trouble is in our namby pamby state now, no one is allowed to discipline kids effectively for fear of prosecution or litigation.

That's more than I've spent on footwear in my entire life.

When I went to school some of the kids had outfits that cost as much as my mate's first clapped out Fiesta. Some parents enjoy spending money on expensive children's clothing, mine preferred booze and fags the selfish gets!!!

My son has to have three different pairs of footwear for school, Black school shoes, outdoor trainers and indoor pe trainers.

He's just brought a letter home to say that from next summer plain black trainers won't be allowed as the day to day school shoes, they have to wear formal shoes.

Why?

School uniform was supposed to be being reintroduced in order to stop children from poorer families being picked on - instead it's made things worse as poorer families can't afford three types of footwear, two different lots of socks, tracksuits, pe shorts, trousers as well as day to day casual wear for out of school.

The fact the school then make it so you can only purchase items from one specialist place only goes to make it even harder.

I'm sure proper school uniform is cheaper than the designer clothing that kids seem to wear for school these days.

Trainers arent formal shoes.

Rules are rules.

I dont think cost is really an issue in 99.9% of cases. Some people just dont like following rules. They take it personally like the father in the article.

Schools have always done that, it's part of the discipline. Most school uniform stuff is pretty standard and available from places such as Asda and Tesco.

If trainers were formal shoes they wouldn't be changing the rules, and I wouldn't have brought it up lol.

I know rules are rules, I don't have an issue with that, but they never give any reason. It would be nice if they did.

As for designer gear, if parents have enough cash to buy such things then thats upto them, but it doesn't give them the right to go against 'rules'. As already stated though, you'd think the headmaster would have more important things to deal with.

No one is allowed to go against the rules if they are enforced properly, that's the whole point so that all kids are the same.

You can't get the polo shirts, sweatshirts, PE Shirts or tracksuit from anywhere but the one shop the school has chosen to work with.

The polo shirts, sweatshirts and PE shirts have to have logo's embroidered on.

I cant see where they changed the rules. You say they needed day to day school shoes which should be black. If someone told my mother to buy me black shoes thats exactly what i'd get. And a clip around the ears if i insisted on wearing black trainers!
I suspect they found that kids told to wear black day to day school shoes turned up in black trainers, so to make it perfectly clear for the new year they now state 'formal' black shoes. Of course the type that were in the Star will still try and bend the rules to try and look clever, and that is probably why they have to insist on a certain supplier- just to make sure the thickos cant get it wrong- no doubt at that point they will start to moan about the cost. Pity you dont get free shoe vouchers with every 46inch plasma screen..

I think I confused the thread by bringing into the original debate the issue of changing school rules and prices of uniform, sorry.

As for the difference between shoes and trainers, there are many variations inbetween the two, from a shiny tap-dancing number to hi-tops. I'm sure something in the middle would have sufficed.
