Can anyone suggest some simple, not too energetic family games?

Charades, sticking a post-it on the forehead with a name on it are popular ones, but we`d like to know of any others we could play.

Tipit is a good one - Split into equal teams and sit on opposite sides of a long table.

One team starts with a small coin. They all put hands underneath the table and pass the coin around secretly. When someone has the coin, all put clenched fists on the tableat the same time, backs of the hand pointing upwards.

A member of the opposite team has to guess who has the coin by looking at expressions and generally working out who is the worst bluffer.

If successful, that team "wins" control of the coin - if not, the hiding team gets a point.

Go back to hiding the coin and someone else guesses.

Repeat and play first to 10 points or whatever

Fluffy Bunnies!

2+ people. especially funny with kids or if you're a bit tipsy.

all you need:
Big bucket of marshmallows

each person pops a marshmallow into his/her mouth DO NOT EAT IT and says 'Fluffy Bunnies'
You keep popping another (without swallowing them) in and saying fluffy bunnies after each one.
The winner is the person who has the most marshmallows in their mouth without eating/spitting any out.

Cheap fun, even the immobile can join in

My brother and I used to play Consequences with our parents and grandparents when we were kids and it amused everybody. We resurrected it at an adults' xmas party last year and it was even more entertaining after several drinks! It goes like this - everyone has a piece of paper and a pen, and you make a story by writing one line of it each and passing it on to the person on your left. We used the following lines:

<woman's name> met
<man's name> at
<place>
she was wearing <outfit>
he was wearing <outfit>
she said <something>
he said <something>
and the consequence was <consequence>

You fill in the bits in <> with whatever you want, then fold the paper over before you pass it on. When all the lines have been completed you unfold the paper and read out the stories. You could change the lines above if you wanted.

Another one was Heads, Bodies and Legs which is good for kids - same principle you draw a head and neck and fold it over so some of the neck is showing, pass it on, then draw a body and fold so the tops of the legs are showing, pass it on, then draw legs, fold over, pass on and reveal!

Hope you enjoy them, Merry Christmas!

a good one we used to play when I was little is to put different scenarios and emotions into a hat e.g. 'buying something in a shop' and 'love'. Someone then has to act out the scenario as if they are feeling the emotion, but without using words (mime). Everyone else has to guess what they are doing and what the emotion is. It can be very funny!

Down here in Firvale we play tiggy brick... or pass the parcel - but the idea is to get rid of the parcel as quickly as possible cos it's ticking. Another fave is duck, duck, goose but with a frying pan to the head as you run round the players and when caught you get a proper smacker in the chops with it.

Of course I'm kidding What about that game that used to be on telly, where theres two teams who have to guess the phrases from their team member who has to stand in front and cannot speak but only draw them on a board?...
