I was expecting a parcel today, and never really knowing what time any postman turns up these days, i got up at 6am and at 2pm i had to go out but ,i checked the letterbox and yes, there was a card saying the item was too big for the letter box and ive to wait 72 hours before trying to collect it....he definately didnt knock.
There was no time of delivery written on the card, i had our christmas lights on so he would know i was at home.....surely its easier for him to deliver it that carrying it around with him...so ive wasted half a day.
sooooo annoying......

A comment was passed on breakfast tv this morning - that due to time and motion studies it is quicker for the postie to leave a card than to wait for the door to be answered. That way he finishes his round on time.

Yeah . . . apparently they have been instructed to go at 6 mph which they are finding impossible due to waiting around for people to answer doors.
Now I know why my postie wears shorts in the middle of winter.

yeh it was on BBC1. Quiet a few emails and calls to the show mirrored the OP.

They don't actually carry the parcels with them anymore. They write the cards up before they go out on their rounds and just stick them through the door.
My dad actually opened the door as the postman turned up and was given the card saying the package was too big for the letter box!

4mph, I think.....and hotly denied by the powers that be, either way...
Actually, I thought that ordinary walking speed was about 3mph anyway.....would take some doing, speeding up with a bloody great mailbag as well .....

Someone on Radio Vine this afternoon did it and average speed was less than 3mph. Any sensible person knows that doing a post round simply couldn't be done at 4 mph, it's not rocket surgery. Royal Mail have denied this anyway and it seems to be blown out of proportion by one grumpy postman who made it up.

I ordered some gig tickets a few months ago of tinterwed that had to be signed for, they didn't arrive until the day of the show and I was playing guitar loudly (along to the band i was going to see 'cause i was so exited) and didn't hear the door!
I legged it to the place on eccy road where they drop off stuff to be collected and just waited there until i saw my postman, when i explained the situation he handed 'em over. Was almost the worst day ever but that Postman's (actually, woman) definately getting a tip this christmas.
