I may not get a good response to this or I may not get a response all at.

It may seem pretty unusual, but I am a university student and I am not interested in clubbing. Unfortunately a lot of people at the university are.

So I was kind of wondering if there is a group whereby they meet up and doing something other than clubbing i.e. cinema 10 pin bowling, restuarants etc etc. If there isn't would anyone be interested in doing something like this?

Unfortunately, there's no such thing at uni. Everything is aimed towards hard drinkers and clubbers.

I'm at Uni and I HATE clubbing! I really don't see the point. Otherwise intellectual students spend hours of their nights drinking to the point of being sick and dancing about in fast forward shelf stacking motions, and all talking about how they remember nothing the next day. Not my idea of fun at all. They also tend to be filled with mouthy lager louts and STD infected, microskirt wearing slappers/ 'ladettes'. I thought I was just about the only student to not enjoy clubbing. I much prefer cinema, restaurants, etc. Much more civilised.

Ha - you obviously haven't been to that many clubs if that's your impression of all of them. You may be surprised to hear but not all are like that...

It depends what you mean by "clubbing"...... I'm also a student and I can't stand the whole hard house / dance / "towny" club scene. I know that lot's of people love it but it just makes my ears bleed! (I'm also way too lazy to have to dance at such a ridiculous pace).

That's not to say that I'm aversed to going to a club though, I love going to corporation as I can just sit and listen to the music I like. Sometimes I do drink too much and feel sick which is silly but never mind.

Anyway, my point was going to be that maybe you might be missing out if you don't try going to somewhere that doesn't necessarily fit the 'club-scene' stereotype.

I like to mix my activities and go to a club once or twice a week and to go to the cinema/bowling/something too!

A 'towny' club as you put it is nothing like a hard house/funky house/breaks/dnb... club. Towny clubs are **** for a start

It is true - if you go to uni and aren't interested in getting slughtered every night, it isn't well set up for you to meet likeminded people - the entire social scene revolves around irresponsible drinking. I joined a sports club to meet people, but that was no good as the whole lot used to go out on a Monday to get slaughtered in stupid three legged pub crawls and get smashed again on a wednesday after a sports event...

ps -

I posted a question about this in the interview thread for the uni presidents - but on't go thinking I'm a massive anti alchohol ******** or anything, because I'm not - but the pride we have in our collective alchohol problem in this country bemuses me - and our town centres are a wreck because of it - turned over entirely to the mass consumption of alchohol at the expense of every other sector of a nighttime economy that exists in other countries, for example cafes late night shopping etc.

NOT ME I'M AFRAID - I am into it....
But not just and only that, and not just one type of music and place and people!!!!!!!!
Anyways - not everybody has to like clubbing - there'd be no space for me to dance if EVERYONE WENT!!!!

I generally hate going out and getting drunk and trying to chat up the sluts who turn up near naked with a bit of cloth covering a few parts of their body. The idea that the only way to meet women is by doing this is stupid and one of the many stereotypes I hate, especially for students. I am a student and everything revolves around drinking it seems, and if you dont like drinking or trying to get laid every night, you're a loser. I guess it just shows up the IQ of people who choose to label and laugh like this as being barely scraping into double figures. I agree with the other post about university societies. I have stayed out of societies after joining the music one, the orchestra one, and looking at several others, and seeing they were all excuses to go and get stoned and drunk all the time.

How do you know they are all sluts, have you spoke to them all, do you know them all personally? You say that then the next line you condemn stereotypes - pot, kettle, black?!
