Do modern ones hold sync better? - my old one seems to have to resync occasionally whereas the ADSL 2 one seems less prone.
Also I'm told they are just stripped down Linux. Are there some that are not and which type is best?
Cheers

Yeah lazy with the caps, but I do come from an old world of DOS, also an after thought was that I should have used 7 bit with parity!

my opinion is that a lot of router sync. problems can be sorted by matching the chipset that is in your router to the chipset of the equipment that is in the DSLAM (The ADSL equipment that is in the exchange). which is why some people will swear by a router model or brand and other people will swear at them. Different chipsets also perform differently given different line conditions. Some will make the absolute best of a good line but not cope well with a poor line and vice-versa

If you are on ADSL2+ have a look here or here
you might also find useful info on the thinkbroadband forums here

hope that helps
