Hi. We are moving out of our rented 3 bed terrace in Hillsborough at the end of this month and could do with a removal company/man & van to help us with the furniture.
Ideally we don't want to hire and drive a van ourselves as we could do with the 'man' part of 'man & van' to lend us a hand, especially to get the dryer out of the cellar! It would be for one run or two at most from Sheffield to Rotherham on a Sunday. Any advice on anyone you have used, (or who we shouldn't use!) would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone has recent experience of using an actual removals company rather than a 'man & van' set up then I would appreciate knowing which is best.
Many many thanks,
Jess
P.S. Our wonderful house is available to let from the 1st of December. The landlord is amazing, the house is modern with new wiring, flooring and there's a good sized garden. We looked for three years to find something as good as this, so we're sad to be leaving, but it would be nice to know someone would be moving in when we let who would love it as much as we have! PM me if you're interested for more info.

Hi, if its got to be on a sunday then man and a van would be the cheapest way.
If you could do saturday? then i would call one of the removal companies... say merrills/sbs/acorn.. i bet you would get a good deal as they must be quiet at the moment.

I've used both SBS and Avante in the last 6 months. Both did a great job, although I found that SBS tried to drag the job out, whereas Avante tried to get it done as quick as possible. Also SBS didn't use any sheets or mattress protectors to save the carpets and beds from damagage/muck - whereas Avante did.
Overall, I would rater use Avante again and only SBS if I had to.

Hi jess,
In reply to your comments on moving house, and removal companies.
Ive just moved from stannington and used SBS removals, they were fantastic the two men that came to move us were called Rob & Matt they were great they couldn't do enough for us .very professional, and very hard working, the van was very clean as well which meant that own stuff was kept clean as well. but most of all they made the whole day go like a dream, no stress what so ever there whitty sense of humour, made what could have been a bad day into a very enjoyable one, many thanks to them.

Hi Jess,
I can second the comments about Avante Removals. As we found to our cost, van and man services seem cheap until you are on the second or third trip and the cost is rising. By using a company with larger vehicles, the initial cost seems higher but the job is completed in 1 go with minimal travelling, a consideration if you are moving accross the city. Also, we found that the larger companies are generally better equipped (although I'm sure this isn't always the case) carrying items like sofa and mattress covers, sack trucks etc. We searched posts on the Forum for help. Try searching Avante.

Hi
We have also used Avante, most recently to our new home in Dawlish. We had no problems at all with the lads from Avante. We were supplied with boxes and on the day, all our carpets were covered and we received free covers for our mattress. The quote was competative, though not the cheapest but after having 4 other companies visit, it was easy to choose! Hope this helps you.

Anyone know of a good removals company they could give me details of please. Im moving back to sheffield from rotherham and the yellow pages is full of them but they seem very over priced.
All the stuff has been flatpacked and its a three bedroomed.
Thanks

Try Caudles 01142-727354, very good and the receptionist/admin person/secretary etc is a diamond. She's the type of person who really runs the company, everyone knows it apart from the boss!
Depending on the size of the house and the amount of stuff you could be looking at anything between £800-£1200.

My mother in law suggested these as they had moved her family back in 60s and she called them but we both thought they where a little expensive and I certainly have not had a qoute that high in price. Thankyou for your suggestion though, but I think we will still keep looking. We have boxed everything and have flat packed items so the bulky things are only the settee, chair, mattresses, fridge freezer, dryer, washer and cooker. So if there are any more suggestions please.

Hi,
We have used Avante Removals a couple of times and can't fault the lads or the prices. We found them through recommendations on the Forum from others that had used them previously. If you search ' Avante ' on here, you will find previous posts. Hope this helps.

I just finished a move with Avante. They provided an excellent service and were very competitive against the other companies that quoted me. They were always available to answer questions and took very good care of my belongings during the move and temporary storage.
Can't recommend them highly enough.

We've also just used Avante Removals to move within Sheffield who were fantastic for the following reasons:
1. Cheapest fixed rate quote we had (also offered by the hour service)
2. Everything very clearly explained - what was included and what wasn't/could be hired etc
3. Anything we asked for prior to the move provided for quickly with no fuss
4. Really friendly service, Thomas was really helpful and gave us several tips for a smoother move
5. Really jolly and hard-working, hardly stopped all day, more than willing to help in any way we asked, even to advising me how to disconnect our cooker when I didn't have a clue!
6. Great care taken of all our belongings, no problems with anything at all
All in all an excellent service, very grateful to Thomas & all concerned.
