Have I been the victim of daylight robbery or is this a trick they play on everyone.
Went in this afternoon after work to get me cigs and a bar of chocolate for the other 'alf and it came to about 45p more than I'd worked out, I asked the geezer behind the counter how much the choccy was and he told me 70p although it was labelled 55p, still not adding up I was tired and not thinking straight (Thinking he was right and I was wrong and didn't wanna embaress myself by arguing the toss over 45p <We've all been there right?>) I left, receipt in hand...
Sat @ home and realised the same had been done to my cigs, surely something is dodgy here, is this how they keep their fuel costs low by randomly ripping off the customer in the shop????

Not charging you the displayed price is one thing, you should always check your receipt, your change before leaving a shop!

Change he gave me according to the receipt was right, but 70p for a mint aero is just downright ludicrus.

Probably pocketing the extra. Had a similar thing at WH Smith in Llandudno. Guy gave me my change wrapped up in the notes, which was seemed unusual. On checking there was £1 short. So my wife gave it a go - exactly the same thing happened, and the elderly lady in front of her bought a postcard and book of stamps - postcard went in a bag, but no stamps.
Maybe one of those cute things the Welsh do to annoy us !

I found the bp garage at meadowhead was doing this, adding a few pennies onto the pump price of the petrol. Don't know if they still do because they lost my custom a few years back but if you think about it - its a nice little earner. A lot of customers must be too busy to notice and we tend to notice the pounds but not the little bits on the end.

Never buy anything except newspapers-cos they can't overcharge on them-and petrol (obviously) from a petrol station.

Shell on Ecclesall Road?
Great service, when my car wouldn't start after filling up the attendant brought his own car over to give me a jump start

If I remember correctly, the price displayed on an item for sale is called “Invitation to treat”. A shop does not have to sell items for that price. However, if this mismatch between the advertised price and the actual price is pointed out to the shop and they continue to advertise at one price but sell at another, you can advise trading standards.

Regarding selling fuel at higher than the advertised price, I would class this is quite serious. I’m not sure where you would stand as I’m not sure that fuel would come under the “Invitation to treat” ruling. I suppose that you could refuse to pay for it and get the garage to take the fuel back out of your vehicle. I’d definitely report this to trading standards (or whoever it is that is mentioned on the side of the petrol pump – there’s usually a little sticker placed there to say the pump is calibrated correctly).

They are doing something similar at Morrisons.
I bought a buy one get one free item then when I checked the reciept I had not got the other free. also charged more for another item than it was on the shelf.
They did refund me but when i went in the following week they did the same thing. Got my refund again.
How many people are checking their reciepts nowadays. If they do this with every customer and only have to refund for half they are making major profit.
Have also noticed the in store prices for most of their items has also shot up since the lowering of their petrol price.

No, the garage got a sale of jump leads. I know the guy who helped me out isn't the proprietor and as such gets paid the same whether he sells any jump leads or not.
Why are we so quick to jump on poor service yet so cynical about good service?
He could have just insisted I shove my car out of the way of the pump.

Went in BP Meadowhead the other evening. Bought some batteries and a cheap lighter and the cashier swiped another barcode, thinking I wasn't looking. He tried to charge me for a coffee, but when I challenged him he just said it was a 'mistake'. Like I believed that!!!!

Unlike the guy who paid for a packet of crisps then jumped back in his mate's car who drove off without paying for fuel!
Beggars belief really, why pay for the crisps? And get yourself on the internal CCTV?

An invitation to treat though doesn't mean that they can charge you what they like without telling you first.
If the advertised price is incorrect they need to inform you and see if you agree to the price they ask for. You can also make them an offer, take the aero up and offer 20p for it.

If they are deliberately mischarging then it's nothing to do with invitations to treat and is more likely to come under theft or fraud legislation.
