personally i would say it is,
if you think not, think about your favourite pet, dog/cat/budgie etc, would you have them "put to sleep" this way ?
not in a million years.

I think most meat rearing/slaughtering methods are inhumane.
Apart from free range smallholdings.

Its cruel beyond belief.
An instant death with a bolt in the head is the way to go.

Halal, just to check is the slitting of throat to kill the animal right?
In that case, as far as food production I don't think it is any more or less cruel than the methods we generally use in the UK.
Why?
Cut off blood flow to the brain and you pass out in just a couple of seconds (I know that from experience in Judo ).
Is that any more cruel than the methods used by the abattoirs used by the supermarkets?

Dear plank
All slaughter methods involve the eating of animal flesh.
If it bothers you so much, why not become a vegetarian?

As others have suggested this is pretty meaningless until you establish that killing animals for meat is not cruel in theory.
Only then can one discuss the merits or otherwise of the various methods.
Over to you, plank.

I think thats your problem. you have an emotional attachment to animals, therefor see them in a human context.
personally, I think would prefere none halal, and my children to eat none halal.
but as long as no one is forcing you to eat it I suppose its a matter of choice.

Do they? I don't recall ever seeing any slaughtermen having to eat the animal they killed!

think the point is, there's no chance of everyone becoming a vegetarian, so, if there's a cruel way of killing something, or humane way, surely we should pick the humane way ?

That was my question though - is there a humane way to kill a healthy animal, just so you can eat it?
I mean, imagine if it was your cat or budgie, plank. Would you think killing it for food (by whatever method you chose) was humane?

Right, so you don't think there is a humane way. So halal is no different from any other method.
Is that the end of the discussion?

Yes, me too with my dog, but I could easily eat someone elses no problemo.
If it comes to starving then maybe we could swap dogs ?

Remember, a dog isn't just for Christmas. With any luck, there'll be some left over for Boxing Day.

I believe the point is to let the animal bleed to death slowly so that as much blood as possible is drained from the body, It's not just about slitting the animals throat - I'm not sure that the RSPCA would approve.

there's probably not a totally humane way, but, as iv;e said before, we should pick the most humane ?
i don't like hunting either, but surely the best way is, for hunters to shoot outright an animal rather than trap it and leave it to die for days
