Sorry if this is old news - RD Taxis have been bought out by City, so if you ring RD it'll be City Cars office who answer.

Are they using the RD offices though? It`s a pity they are no more as they were very reliable. I`ve used them several times as they were local.

I don't think so no. Apparently quite a few regular customers are disappointed because they'll lose the 'local service'.

Company at Hillsborough called Northside are moving in on the area to try and get some new customers...

im fed up of city cars, parking outside my house in my parking space. just because the neighbour rents the cars to them. we park outside his house and all hell breaks loose. if any visitors park outside his house, hell knock on my door and tell them to "shift it" and they do, so last taxi that was parked outside my house i called him and told him to move it, he said "i dont know nothin about it?!?!?" moved it pretty quick tho when i said id call the police and tell them a taxi had been dumped on my door.
i thought there were only so many taxis allowed in sheffield or does that just apply to black cabs? every day theres a different car getting badged up on his drive. from my understanding plates have to be applied for and approved by sheff city council?

10 years ago I went for an interview at RD when I was still on the Jobseeker's, they told me some of their biggest customers were old Biddies who rang them from the Lane Top Netto, which is ACROSS THE ROAD from their Office!

And before anyone asks, I didn't get the job, it had already gone to some 16 year old the damn New Deal (not that I really wanted it, the Dole was doing my head in so I applied for the taxi job to get off the Dole)

Do I take it from your signature that you are a hobby bobby?

The casual disrespect for the elderly that you show says a lot about the calibre of people working for the police....

RD havent gone they have a new manager RD and CITY CARS have merged, still the same drivers just another boss, and from what i gather the old manager is still there too. some of the drivers left because the new owner is a (rhymes with banker). we used RD all the time never had a problem with them, but then that could be cos the mother in laws friend worked on the phones, and she had a regular taxi every night from our house to hers. so when me and my husband needed a taxi, we got one within 10 mins.

We've also used RD on a regular basis but the office at Sheffiled Lane Top has closed.
We never had any problem with them.

Still ring the same number but it's City that turn up, they also own other taxi companies but they've been able to keep their own name.

No but I'm hoping to be, I'm attending a recruitment presentation at Snig Hill tomorrow.

And "hobby bobby"?! I'm sure most serving Specials would consider that remark EXTREMELY offensive, I've chatted online with various serving Specials in SYP on Policespecials.com, and none of them are "hobby bobbies", they work just as hard as regular Policemen.

Also, I have the greatest of respect for the Elderly, having worked in several Charity shops, and also spent a week at the Winged Fellowship in Essex about 12 years ago, looking after severely disabled Elderly folk.

Infact the customer will get a better service as city have cars in all areas and most of the old r d customers as you can still ring the old number. You'll now be able to get a taxi from s5 area etc to hallamshire and back with city taxis who have their own taxi booking desk at the hallamshire. It's situated in the outpatients reception. A girl in a city polo shirt will book it for you and tell you when it arrives. Saw it today! Saves yourself hassle.

It's not my place to NOT offend people.

And perhaps your credentials are all fine. But it's not about that.

One duty of appearing "in uniform", is not to cause offence, as straightaway the term "old biddy" is disparaging and illustrates a flippant lack of regard to the elderly.

This may not be true, but the impression that such terms give is important. If giving an impression WASN'T important, turning up for duty with macaroni cheese down the front of your uniform would also be acceptable.

You are of course right, it is a merger and the drivers and the service should be unchanged or even better. A correction about the name though, the original City Cars went into a merger with Regency cars and Alpha cars and the first letter of each used in the name to form the RCA, and they have kept on expanding by taking over Ace of Cars and the latest being RD etc. The current name came about when they formed a yet new company City Taxis Ltd for various reasons of convenience. So the name hasn't been kept but a convenienly simmilar named limited company formed within last couple of years.

I was going to post something last week (Friday) but I was due at a school to pick someone up.

I found out when I rang RD's and someone answered City.......put phone down and rang again thinking I was p****d when rang ( I had only one pint but a "Blade" fan kept telling me how good they were.....

Anyway the taxi driver I got didn't know where the school was (which helped me because my geographical knowlege of Sheffield is crap and spelling and I could have walked....but only after I noticed) had a detor and it cost me £6.30 (yet according to a City taxi driver later on that night should have been £3.90)

Got to give that driver 100%, he checked up and knocked the money off the fare, BUT I have used RD's for a while and not happy that they have sold out................

City taxi have actually now moved into the RD premises on Lane top...I liked the idea of a local taxi place and had got to know some of the cab drivers through regular runs. City have apparently taken over Phoenix as of last week as well! The service isn't quite the same

Whilst having kicked RD into touch a while ago ( very arrogant co owner ) did use Phoenix a great deal who provided a good local service generally. ie local drivers working same/local area.

Got a taxi from Owlerton last week and had to tell the City Driver were the Lane Top was.

The point I would raise is how as this been allowed to happen in any other business this company ( City Cars) would be reported to the monpolies commission.

Surely one company with so much power (850 cars) is bad ie they can dictate higher radio charges which in turn will increase fares.

How can this be good for the customer, what are the council doing about it (me thinks nothing) ?

And before anyone posts me as a disgruntled taxi driver can I say I am not however I am a regular customer who just wants to get home without having an encylopeadic knowledge of the Sheffield a-z.
