Hi,

I'm looking at setting up a merchant account and would like some advice..

We will be taking approx 4-5 payments on a daily basis (6 days per week) and average value will be £50. These payments are done via telephone

I've been looking at PayPoint as a possible solution but was just wondering who everyone else uses?

Regards
Chris

Most small shops now have the ability to use paypoint and so it is becoming more accepted.

Your business bank account manager should be able to help you set one up as HSBC and RBS as well as most others have merchant facilities.

It does cost though to set up and with a monthly fee but you do get a card machine so you can swipe or enter card details manually on the keypad if you take telephone payments.

Dont go for the American Express option though as the charges are not worth it for £50 transactions.

American Express only charge the same as any other credit card.

If you join a trade association you normally get preferential rates on card processing. I know the FSB do it - but there will probably be an association specifically for what you do too. It's normally worth the joining fee because you get legal advice etc. too normally, and with the FSB you get free business banking for life with the Co-Op.
