We are group of 10 architecture students from the University of Sheffield carrying out a 6 week live project that will extend the reach of the The Spires Community Centre in Arbourthorne as a valuable resource to a greater number of people by improving the public face of the building and providing a clearer connection to the community.
Please see the blog/website giving you all of the information about the project, what we're doing and how you can get involved!

Myrtle Springs School has since been demolished and replaced with Sheffield Springs Acedemy. The Spires Community Centre now (physically) stands isolated on the site, disjointed from the new acedemy, and Eastern Bank Road by a stretch of (no-man's-land tarmac, physically seperated fro the pavement by a weld mesh fence.
In trying to open up this wonderful facility to a wider audience, visually breaking down the barrier fence and re-orientating the main entrance with the possibility of providing additional facilies will be a prime objective.
Your views and opinions on how you would like to see this facility improved to suit you are very welcome and would be much apprecieted!
As far as the information provided to us from the authorities goes, currently proposals are for some form of landscaping (sports pitches, educational landscapes etc.) to this area.
Are you involved with the site in anyway, a resident, parent, community worker etc ?
Please see our blog and share your thoughts. Thanks
