Probably same reason lots of Sheffield are not connected. Lack of money etc. I remember years back when it was installed into the house I lived in then, they said all houses would have it`s the future, all the usual rubbish they spout. It also causes alot of disruption with paths dug up to lay the cables.

Derbyshire doesn't have electricity and running water yet and you're demanding cable televsion?

What do you want next? The atomic bomb and a space programme?

hi
very simple answer.
COST
yorkshire cable spent millions (it made them go bust) putting the somewhat limited infrastructure in place.
even though virgin have took over they will never ever extend the network due to cost.
sorry!!!

True, in the days of Yorkshire Cable a fortune was spent cabling up high rise flats & council estates (eg flower estate) the take up for services was huge but as was the amount of people who didn't pay for them.

Maybe because the innitial cable infrastructure was laid down by Yorkshire Cable and not Derbyshire Cable.

I lived on a road with cable on one side and not the other. the box was exactly opposite me and I was closer to it than most with it but they would not put it to my side of the road.

they said to me on the phone that I would have to get the majority of house holders on my side wanting it and to phone them back if I did !

like im going to drum up new customers for them .

They are looking at the digital switch over first and also installing in newbuilds then there is a view to expand the network.

Erm... I bet you a million pounds that your friend does not have an NTL cable television or internet (or even phone) service.

My partner moved up here from London last year and he is still furious that we do not have cable. He used to have Virgin, really fast internet, plus tv and phone, all really cheap.

the reason for this is because they need to have everyones approval from the council to dig up the road/pavement to lay the cable and then its still a VERY large expense to virgin.

now then if they just used the telephone polls to supply the cable, like most places in the states, you wouldnt have this issue.
