OK, now I've seen it all I think.

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-st...lk-944765.html

Animal rights group Peta are advocating the use of human breast milk in Ben & Jerry's products instead of relying so much on cows' milk. Don't worry, your tub iof Cherry Garcia won't be including mummy milk any time soon, though, as they see this as madness

However, Peta have mentioned a Swiss chef who is using breast milk in his cooking:

Quote:
In a letter to Ben & Jerry's co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, it cites the example of chef Hans Locher, who recently announced that he will be serving soups and sauces made from 75 per cent breast milk in his Swiss restaurant. Mr Locher posted adverts in local villages appealing for donors, offering a rate of £3 per 14 ounces (398ml) for their milk.

£3 for 14 ounces? *furiously tries to re-lactate*

On a serious note, I couldn't eat anything made from human milk

There's something uniquely Swiss and faintly sadistic about that chef wanting to pay top dollar for breast milk for the jaded palates of his well-heeled customers...They're all bored with eating things like Lark and Dolphin and Persian Kitten so now they want baby's milk. No matter, the mums donating it can go and buy formula and still be quids in

As for Peta. Round. The. Bend.

I'm surprised they ever considered the notion, I bet their shareholders must be happy. How ridiculous?

I agree, absolutely ludicrous. Whatever will they commodify next? Human urine? As for Peta, as you say, totally round the bend.

Doesen't PETA kill animals though.
Loons if you ask me. Get them on the plate, they don't deserve to be as high up the food chain as the rest of us

I had not heard about this. If it's true, they have some serious explaining to do.

This is mentioned in the thread about wet-nursing.

He never actually got round to collecting any milk before the authorities stopped him.

Peta Exterminates Thousands of Animals

Ironically this is funded by 'animal lovers'.

How are they attempting to 'justify' this?

The difference being, one assumes, that humans will voluntarily give up their breastmilk.

And that the male offspring of the 'donor' isn't put in pies, nor is the mother when her milk supply dwindles.

I think it's bad making cows produce milk the way they do, they should use bull's milk instead.

It's Peta's policy to put animals to sleep. Unlike say Cats' Protection who keep the cats until they find a home and if they don't, keep them themselves, Peta don't believe in keeping the pets if they have to live in a shelter so they just put them to sleep, puppies, kittens, the lot. They also campaign against people keeping pets or breeding animals.

I'm in favour of animal rights to a point, but at some point it does go too far.

I think the thing about the chef is more disturbing. Peta are just nutters, and that letter to B&Js was probably a publicity stunt, knowing them. But the chef was actually going to serve up milk that's meant for babies to his bloated customers and there's something deeply sinister about that. It's not wrong or vomit-inducing because it's breast milk, but ethically quite sinister.
