Any dentists out there who can advise me about wisdom teeth?

The problem is that I have one that is partially through and it's really hurting. I've read up on a few sites, including NHS Direct about what I can get done and it mainly focusses on how/when they are removed, the procedure involved and associated problems.

The thing is, that the last time I had a wisdom tooth coming through, I had to have the tooth next it removed for a different reason. But a side effect of that was that it gave the wisdom tooth room to come through properly and it stopped hurting.

After reading some of the problems/procedures for removing a wisdom tooth, I'd rather do the same this time, and have the other tooth removed. But the only problem is that I'm worried they might refuse as this time that tooth doesn't need removing. But something has to go, and I'd rather it was that one. Would I be able to insist on that being removed rather than the wisdom tooth?
