Seems that many forums have their character posters, some of which become ego inflated through their posts !! Is this a free forum of opinions or is it just a showcase for personal ego boosting for those that are over the 5000 post hits ???? we all have opinions but it seems like certian posters get away with more than most... biggoted opinions do not allways cut the mustard.... generally....

It would be undignified to acknowledge or answer someone with only 220 posts... cheeky, bloody peasant.

I don't think the 5k plus crew get away with more, they just know what not to say to get banned.
I would imagine many of the 5k plus posters are socially awkward and unable to express their opinions in every day life. I think therefore it may not be an ego trip but a great way for everyone to express opinions on a level field.

Fishcake-
I don’t necessarily agree with the socially awkward bit but it is definitely a level playing field.

Perhaps not socially awkward per se, but perhaps not easily able to speak up with their views in a crowd.
Fight the power!

I have to agree with this, there are people on the forum who come across more important than others, just because they have a higher post count doesn't neccessarily mean they post on important things? The majority of threads in the "Im Bored" section put post counts up quickly.
I just remember that the people with only a few dozen posts have opinions and just because they aren't as gobby as some, they're just as important and involved.
But I do agree, it seems the higher the post count, the more important an individual thinks themself to be.

On the whole people are talking to an “anonymous” person and as such can express points of view without upsetting anyone, until those points of view become bigoted obviously.

Don't talk silly, how can you inflate your ego on a forum, I mean there is little chance of me showing pics to prove the 14" long and 3" wide tool I have, its a family forum after all.
Some kids probably get their kicks from ego boosting but others just play for fun.

Cool, I'll grab the chainsaw and start taking pics immediately, I'm proud of my tool I am.
Better not though, the youths of today may start upgrading from the common knife.

Some people seem to love inflating their egos on forums! It's something that'd really put me off meeting someone from a forum if they were like that.

I have a query, would someone that uses other mediums like T.V, hollywood, music, politics to inflate their ego, make you feel the same way?
Or is it just people from sheffield forum?

There could be a few, I suppose. But aren't most people who use forums just average and ordinary like most of us? I think some people tend to get more involved with some threads and they turn into the X and Y thread, going completely off topic sometimes. That sometimes puts me off adding anything because by the time you've read through all that, the original point has been pretty much forgotten. I don't think most of the high post count people are egotistical. As somebody else pointed out, you can rack up quite a lot of posts just through going on the "I'm Bored" section. That accounts for about 90% of my posts anyway! I don't think they're any less likely to get banned for breaking the rules just because they post more frequently, they're probably just more aware and accepting of what rules they need to keep to to avoid a ban in the first place.

Interesting question.....I suppose my opinion wouldn't necessarily be the same to someone from tv, or music...not if they were somebody I had an interest in. I guess that's the same on a forum though, there are people I'd like to meet from what I've seen of them on a forum, but there's also people I wouldn't like to know, from what I've seen on a forum. But that'd be the same for TV too, for example I'd like to meet say...David Attenborough or Michael Palin, whereas someone from Big Brother I'd certainly rather never meet!

Oh yes.... Posting definitely boosts my fragile ego! It's like a um..... saw (i think this was the term used earlier in the thread) enhancer for egos...

I find the forum quite useful to rein in the ego - rather than shooting from the hip, I can take my time to see things from other people's points of view.
I now find that I have fewer instant flippant responses in "real life", too. Don't know if that's a beneficial effect of the forum or just another effect of ageing ...
