I've just wished the missus a Happy Anniversary and she glared at me and I don't know why, I'm wondering if it is some sort of special one but I can recall the year.

I've always told people Wednesday were top of the Premiership at the time, (no comment on any downward spiral of fortune since then) and I think it was the year Humphries scored against Leicester and I think we won at Newcastle whilst I was there.

Can anyone confirm the year and whether or not this is a special anniversary.

Thanks

Nah it was later than that it was when Pleat was manager around 1995/96, 1996/97

EDIT: It was 1996/97 season when we won our first four games

1996-97

We won the first four games, home to Villa then away at Leeds and Newcastle, and were actually briefly 5 points clear at the top of the table! The fourth game at home to Leicester was brought forward to the Monday night for Sky TV so we'd played a game more than everybody else (except Leicester, obviously).

Didn't Humphries hold the record for the fastest recorded shot for his goal against Villa? Also remember the Leeds game and but can only remember Boothys goal.

Shows you what a good start to the season does though coz we finished 7th that season and played in Europe again (if you can class the Intertoto as a European competition )

It was David Hirst's shot against Villa, 118 mph.

It was against Arsenal, a shot which hit the bar.

Humphreys' goal against Villa was in the top 5.

This is the one, I remember playing Golf in the morning then getting wed at Gretna Green and finally sitting in the Car Park waiting for the Newcastle game to finish before going into my reception.

So that makes it twelve years, I wonder why she had face on with me unless I've got the wrong day

Im sure that record still stands aswell
David Hirst scored for Sheffield Wednesday against Arsenal on September 16, 1996 with a shot presumed to to have gone in at 114mph.

Here it is

The date of that Newcastle game was August 24, 1996...
