Just been up to Graves Park ponds for a fruitless hour trying to spot sticklebacks with my stepson. I have a pond and wanted to put some in to keep mozzy larvae down. Other than laughing at a drunk bloke trying to fish though, we had no luck.

That surprised me, as I used to catch 'em by the bucketload as a kid (from a canal though). Anyone know for definite if you can get them in the canal, or anywhere else close by?

I used to catch them in the stream that runs from Holgate avenue to Barnsley road on the Cross.
The second field is the best place for them, you can see the water rippling as they all swim for cover as you approach. The best thing is theres nowhere for them to really escape to so you can catch loads there.

Used to go with my Dad and catch them in the canal at Carbrook when I a kid. Or as he called it, O'er locks.

You can still get onto the canal all along there, so you might still find some.

The pond just up from Endcliffe Park Cafe was always a good spot for sticklebacks.
