With little pleasure I note that us lucky residents of Hillsborough are getting a Cash Convertors on Holme Lane. I'm sure that's just what the area needs is a place for the smackheads to sell their wares and for youths to congregate whilst coveting the sparkly things that the shop has to offer.

This said I've always said you can tell an areas drug problem and the affluence of the folk who live there by how long a branch of Cash Convertors stays open and the ratio of the fresh veg section to that of the alcohol section in local shops.

Get ready to start seeing those Subutex packets scattered about the streets you lucky, lucky people.

Never knew it'd closed down.

It amazes me that these places still exist when there's eBay, and even then they are always trying to sell 2nd hand stuff for more than the new latest model is selling for in Argos.

The shell of the money spinner is still there - They've converted the building of that cheque cashing/we buy gold place a few doors down.

Theres' always been second hand shops on Holme Lane, just up from the chemist.

Not seen any groups of druggies stood around in over 30 years.

Groups of whingers, well...maybe.

If it impacts on the area where I live then I'll moan if I want.

Where I live we have a branch of 'Stocks, Bonds and Gilt-Edged Securities Converters'.

I don't want to sound snobbish, but it does tend to lower the tone of the area somewhat.

I like new businesses to open up, but I'm not sure Theft Converters is the one I wanted. And the razor wire is a little intimidating.

CC is great as often the staff don't have a clue about the finer points of stuff like musical equipment, they can't tell the difference between £40 worth of amplifier and £500 worth if they are both the same size. I bought two valve guitar amps from there, one the model Neil Young plays through, for peanuts. Apart from mobile phones and games consoles they don't have a clue.

Don't see anything greatly wrong with this, to be honest - I've been in Cash Converters in various places and never found the atmosphere particularly intimidating. I just wonder how they're going to make it pay though because there used to be one in town opposite the markets, and that shut down; and similarly Money Spinner on Holme Lane shut down as well, though to be fair that did last longer than I expected it to.

Second hand shops are always dodgy, most of the stuff they "sell" is either pirated games, knock off DVDs, or cheap "bling" for the C words.

How about a new brothel instead? Would that raise the tone of the area?

I live round here and can't say I'm that worried about CC. Money Spinner was there for ages, and as far as I know was never a hotspot for trouble. I'm more likely to be concerned about things in Hillsborough like late licenses and empty shop units tbh.

Quite apt that a store for getting rid of - and buying more of - worn out second-rate rubbish opens in Hillsborough...

...whilst the transfer window is still open!
