£25 Tickets for 'The last Shadow Puppets', Sheffield City hall, went on sale
on-line at 09.30 this morning, and sold out immediately.
They are now going for £142 on Ebay.
I might be old fashioned, but to me this should be illegal.

It is obscene, whatif.

Glad the mods on here, at least, have some mettle, and have made cons and rip-offs like that against the forum rules.

Don't eBay now have an anti-touting policy where a seller is banned if they have more than one auction at a time running for tickets? That way it's still possible to sell your personal tickets if you can't make the concert, but wholesale ticket touting is stopped.

bloody touts, it needs cracking down on that's for sure. i'm all in favour of hefty fines for the sumbags. i'm sick of missing out on gigs because they're being bought up purely to flog on ebay for a weeks wages.

and... relax

Look at this, if it works, sorry I could not copy the address line, Obase: I am too old fashioned. It is from a company flogging tickets, called :

Seatwave ....'The fan to fan ticket exchange.

1. Review details:
Your tickets Block: BALCONY - Row: A

£179.98
The fees Seatwave commission (inc Vat)What's this?

£31.74

Post and Packaging £6.50

£218.22

Now is this a company getting around illegally bumping up ticket prices by pretending to be a fan exchange...
or am I a Dutchman?

There were too many pages to copy, but on one page it does have the cheeek to show: Tickets face value of £25.

That is CRAZY but there are other means of getting tickets.

Be patient and wait a week or two, peoples whose payment that was originally accepted sometimes gets declined and tickets are then returned back to the pool. Ive gotten awesome tickets to so called so out gigs a week or two before they happened because of this.

Also, venues tend to release left over tickets that are held for radio stations and friends and family that arent being used the day of the concert. Might want to try stalking the ticket office at 8am to see if theres anything available. Though as this is Alex Turners hometown, in this case it might be hard to do this since all his friends and family tickets will probably go.

You could also try fan sites, some of them do ticket exchanges or people who bought tickets now cant go and need to get rid of them. Generally those places will sell for face value + cost of shipping. Thats where youll find your best deals. If the Last Shadow Puppets have anything like that, you might want to give the net a browse for fan sites with bulletin boards attached to them.

eBay should ALWAYS be your very last resort. Refuse to pay ticket scalpers, they are one of the reasons why groups get away with charging disgusting amounts to go see them. Scalpers are also one of my biggest pet peeves.

I don't see why an event ticket should be any different from any asset that one buys and then sells on for a profit. The answer is simple and in the hands of the fans themselves - don't buy them and remove the "demand" from the equation. If some fans choose to buy them it just means they are rich fans and they have the advantage over poor fans , but that's life I'm affraid.Personally I think that the face value of most tickets is far too high to start with.

Surely calling someone a wally is a term of abuse. Mild admitedley and one would have to be particularly sensitive to take offence but abuse nontheless.

I'll put my hand up to that one and take the abuse, it is perhaps stupid to be willing to pay more for a ticket than was originally asked for by the promoter, but if I can't get online or in the queue or wherever when the tickets go on sale (which is usually the case), I'm just glad to be given the choice. I certainly wouldn't buy off one of the 'ticket outlet' websites because that's a) a very good way to kiss your money goodbye and b) a right royal p*** take! As for the person who said they hope my tickets for T in the Park are fake... they're not. eBay's feedback system makes it pretty obvious who the rip off merchants are, and regardless of your opinions on this subject I wouldn't wish such a thing upon you.

My basic point: touts, whilst being money grabbers who are removing a percentage of tickets from those in the queue that weren't lucky enough to be far enough forward, make buying tickets still possible for those of us who couldn't make the queue in the first place.

The government very recently had a debate, after prodding from a Conservative MP on touting, they won't do anything about it.
They did make it illegal for Football matches, events leading up to and including the 2012 Olympics on the grounds of public order.
Why can they make it illegal for one thing yet not for the other?

Most tickets say, usually on the back, that the resale of the ticket is illegal: yet nothing is ever done about it.
Touts make serious money and I don't believe they pay any tax on this income.
This toothless bunch in parliament have plans to stop Olympic Games and football match touting yet will let music/arts go hang.
