NHS Direct can give you a list of the nearest ones to you.
I go to Mr Evans on London Road, always good (even when I had to have an extraction...)

I've just moved to an NHS dentist with no trouble after Park Dental Care were extracting more than teeth with their fees. As Jim Royale would say - £48 to clean my teeth, then another £32 to see the dentist for 2 minutes afterwards.....my arse...............

NHS dentists

I have just moved from occidental. I felt that they were just out for as much money as they can get. One of my teeth had a tiny tiny bit of decay and they wanted to do a filling. I told them it didn't need it yet because it wasn't causing a problem. She said it MAY do in future.

Working on that presumption I would need every tooth filled. This was almost a year ago and the tooth is still the same as before, no problem at all.

Try J B Lenton 0114 2661665

It's a new clinic next to the Royal Hallamshire and I just got registered there. I was very impressed with the dentist I saw who was much better than my previous one who retired last year.

Beware that in some other NHS clinics taking registrations you will be seen by a dental student rather than an experienced qualified dentist.

They are taking new patients at Thompson & Thomas (Fairlawns) on Middlewood Road but you might be seen by a student.

surely you might have to appreciate that a dentist knows more about teeth than you do?!

No I don't. They are my teeth and I know at what speed they decay.

Ok we will remember that when we see a post from you on here saying you are in agony with your teeth and you cannot get a dentist appointment.

If your teeth are decayed there is nothing to blame than your poor oral hygiene! I don't think that a dentist would fill a perfectly healthy tooth!

I've been attending Thompson & Thomas @ Fairlawns (on Middlewood Road, within the new medical centre) for the last year since it opened. The dentists that carry out the treatment are students - final year I think - but they are attended by qualified assistants and are supervised by Mr Thompson and his colleagues. The supervising dentists have consistently won national 'dentist' and 'practice' of the year awards. The students are really good & very careful and the patient care from reception all the way through treatment is excellent. I would highly recommend the practice. NHS charges are fixed within 'bands' and the reception team will explain this to you.

Not a dig Keith...but can you tell me why you registered with a dentist?

Decay is decay...and only due to bad oral hygiene...unless you had an accident...either way getting it fixed would seem like common sense as it will only cost more in the long run.

If you don't trust your dentist then go self private...buy one of those mini drills and a bottle of Jack Daniels...oh! and some body filler. If your not taking professional advice then un-register and give those that do accept good advice a chance.

maybe a toothbrush, some toothpaste and a roll of floss will do the trick then!

Well that is exactly my point. I believe a dentist would fill a perfectly healthy tooth in order to make more money.

Since I posted the last message I booked at another dentist and had a check up. The dentist gave me a clean bill of health and never mentioned the so called decaying tooth.
