My son wants to update the graphics card on his VAIO VGN-N21E...

What card should he put in there, how much will it cost and where is the best place to buy from.

basically with laptops its pretty much impossible or extremley difficult to upgrade a laptops graphics.

In short, i dont think you will be able to.

If however you want to improve performance upgrading the laptops memory is a more viable option.

best of luck

Intel 950 graphics chipst is pretty crap but that's what it's got. If he want to play games get him an Xbox or spend about £800 on a new laptop.

A memory upgrade will make windows smoother but will make no difference on it's ability to play games which I guess is what he want to do.

UPDATE:

My son has removed the 2 x 512mb memory and replaced them with 2 x 1gb...BUT when he looks on his PC's properties it is still showing as 1024mb!

Is this correct...Does it have to be enabled somewhere? He says it is not working any better than before.

Thanks

If he has 1gb or RAM upgrading it to2gb will make it smoother if it's running Vista but I doubt he will see much difference, he still wont be able to play games. What are the part numbers of the 4 different sticks of RAM? It should see 2Gb automatically and does support that much.

Yes..he checked to make sure it supported 2gb...but it's not 'seeing it'

Edit:
He's just swapped them around and appears to be working now...

Are the 2 x 512mb sticks worth anything..Should I sell them on? If so for how much?

Thanks
