We've got a visitor from Egypt in my department at work, who's here for the next two years and he's looking for classes to improve his English.

I've had a look online and found that Sheffield Uni only offer this service to their own students, and the courses at Sheffield Hallam look rather pricey - so I was wondering, does anyone know of any other options that I can suggest to him?

He actually lives in Leeds, but commutes to Sheffield by car for work - so ideally I guess it would be an after work class, and easy for him to find and drive to and from!

Thank you!

Unless he can find private tutors who are reputable to have ad hoc one to one lessons. Even those are quite pricey you know. 10 per hour, similar to driving lessons.

Thanks for the link and the suggestion of private tutors. How could I go about finding the latter?

Im sure Firth Park College or Longley do ESOL classes in the evening. If not try Adult Community Learning Unit, Tel: 0114 2667503 they run free courses in community.
