What I would like to do is save some of the radio programs from the beebs site as MP3s so I can listen to them on my new MP3 player.
Anyone know if this is possible and if so how do you do it?
TIA

The beeb aren't too keen (yet) on you doing this. Whilst they have been piloting podcasting, it's only been for a couple of programs. Pity. Anyway, there are several packages out there that may assist. The most popular seems to be http://www.replay-radio.com/
As for free, non-cracked/dubious software, please let me know if you find one. I've been using Total Recorder ( http://www.highcriteria.com/) to WAV then MP3 Radio 1's Milk Run as I love it. I wish the BBC would extend the podcasting to other shows....
Edited cos I can't type.

It is possible and there is freeware/shareware out there.
Do a google.
Audacity? comes to mind.

I'll give Audacity a go, but the page I've just read of its specs doesn't mention streaming support or Real Player file support, which is what I think the beeb streams(?).
Cheers.

Your query prompted me to go ahead and try. I had downloaded Audacity ages ago and never got round to it.
I have just successfully recorded the live stream from Radio 2 and then exported it as an mp3.
You need a second download of the LAME mp3 encoder but it seems to work fine. (I think it might only be mono - still checking)
Yep. Changed >File>Preferences>Recording>Channels
Now in Stereo.

Lots (and lots) of ways to do this .
Have a look at this link (takes you to http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/all-streaming-video-recording-software.htm) which contains many freeware methods (never used any of them though, so I don't know anything about the individual titles).

I've used Net Transport to do this in the past (it's actually the latest version of FlashGet).

I think we've covered this before.
Use Audacity. Press the 'Record' button and then press Play on Realplayer.
It's all in 'real time' (ie you have to listen to the whole show to record it), but works fine.

To record streaming radio, sounds or rerecord a portion of a track I use Steinberg's Wavelab or Sonic Soundforge then to put the sound files into MP3 I use dBpowerAMP Music Converter
All good stuff !

I'm suprised they aren't already providing more shows as podcasts. Most of the one's I've seen are Radio 4 & Radio 5 shows. Maybe it's some contractual thing to do with playing music (hence radio 4 & 5 only), but it seems odd because they already have time shifted streaming available and podcasting seems to be the natural next step to take.
I could definatly do with listening to the Essential Selection full blast first thing on a Monday morning
Virgin radio already provide the breakfast show as a podcast:

Poor sound quality, but what about playing it with the speakers on quite loud and a microphone on, with sound recorder recording from the mic? It would save as a .wav so you'd then need to convert it to mp3.

Thanks to all who replied.
I've managed to do it using Audacity and Lame.
I am now the proud owner of a 26M MP3 of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' that was recorded in Sheffield a few years back.
Thanks again
