Just drove past the park and was shocked by the ridiculous amount of litter strewn everywhere. It's disgusting. Discarded barbecues, chairs, heaps of carriers, food, bottles etc.
Don't know if it's to do with the big tents and whatever's in them. I've never seen it quite this bad.
Don't people from other parts of the city start whining on at me about how priveleged the area is blah blah blah. It is where I live and I don't see why a beautiful park, that is used by people from all over the city, should be sullied in this way.
I'm not that old but I wouldn't dream of leaving litter behind no matter where I was as I'd feel my mother tutting and shaking her head behind my back. It's very very bad manners and shows a distinct lack of respect for others.

Its what happens everywhere when the sun comes out and people go for a picnic, a BBQ, some white lightning, a game of frisbee etc then can't be arsed to pick up their stuff. I was thinking of walking around Weston Park / Crookes Valley later, no doubt that will be similar.

maybe instead of people complaining about the use of the park for events like fairs ,circus ,festivals they should complain about people who use it and litter the park .

Last week I saw the burnt rectangle of grass where there'd been a barbecue - in the Botanical Gardens.

the fairs circus etc pay for the cleaning services unlike the public who make the most mess yes i know paying taxes but thats still no excuse to be a dirty scrubber

Had my first look at the newly 'revamped' Devonshire Green this morning and could hardly see the grass - absolutely covered in rubbish dumped by those 'enjoying' the new amenity last night!
More worrying - one of the guys picking up the litter said the Council were no longer imposing the £75 penalty because of some legal loophole.
Does anyone know what's happening here?

We counted 11 different barbecues on the main bit of grass on Friday evening. The place was packed. Why don't people just clear up after themselves, can they not see what it looks like?

it looked georgous on friday night and me and my mate had a good time there(dev green) and we put our empty beers on the quite wonderfull new hi teck bins there
99% of the people there were enjoying themselves and behaving.

We drove past this morning and commented on the mess left. As barbies are becoming so popular we ought to consider designated barbie areas with proper fireproof i.e. stone tables like they do in Oz.
More bins are also needed in Endliffe Park.

Ah, cheers for that.
Have some stuff I was taking to the tip tomorrow evening after work, but since I pass Dev. Green on my way in to work, I can just dump it en-route.

Once went past Dev green early on a saturday morning before the council had cleaned it up,was amazed how much rubish had been left to put it crudely it was a total sh@t hole.

It makes me really angry that so many people don't clean up after themselves. I do occasionally risk being thumped by picking up the rubbish when I see who's dropped it, tapping them on the shoulder and saying, 'excuse me, I think you left this behind'.

People using the park should clear up when they leave.
Other half walks the dog in there and several mornings now there's been bits of school uniforms strewn all over the park- school ties, jumpers etc - I can't remember which school he said but I've a feeling it was Notre Dame school -he was talking with another park user and she said it's getting to be a regular occurrence. So what's that all about then?

Yeah, same in Botanical Gardens too. When the litter bins are full, they just empty their rubbish by the side of the bin - it's not even bagged up.
How difficult is it to take it away with you and find another bin?
