Its actualy 2.30 from Hillsborough to Woodhouse as there is no 2.90 fare on that route, infact come to think about it there isnt a 2.90 fare on any route except the Derbyshire buses.

Its not alot cheaper than First actually. Its only cheaper on the 88, 83 and the other routes that compete in Sheffield.
Routes like the 201, 29, 265, 43,44 in Sheffield charge similar levels to First.
Certainly in Stagecoach Yorkshire's area the Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster fares are the same as First.
You would be very wrong to assume just because your competing route is cheaper that Stagecoach's entire operation is the same. After all legally speaking the the Yorkshire region (including Sheffield) and the Chesterfield operation are controlled from the old Tracky headquarters and it is they who set all the different fares.
Certainly in my area the First £1 evening fare works out cheaper than the limited Stagecoach services running in the area.

If you compare stagecoach and first day savers it is £3.50 First and £3.00 Stagecoach. I know which bus I would get on.

£1 is a special offer for a limited periods on selected routes (52 and 120 I think).
Generally within Sheffield Stagecoach is significantly cheaper than First (Sheffield to Bradway on Stagecoach is about £1.60, First charge about £2). However once you cross the boundary the Stagecoach fare shoots up. On the 43 Sheffield to LowEdges is £1.20, to the Coach & Horses (3 stops further) it's £2.20! But then there is no competition from First in Dronfield...
I generally find Stagecoach buses are nicer vehicles than First's, and also seem to be faster. However most Stagecoach routes don't operate evenings and Sundays, wheareas you can still get to most places by First.
It's one of those things, you pay your money and make your choice!

The fare from woodseats to town on a 253 43 727 is around 25% cheaper on a stagecoach as against a fsy and the stagecoach is more likely to turn up on time

Stagecoach fares do shoot up at the boundary and they have just been revised at the end of April too.
However Stagecoach do still do return fares which are quite reasonable on the full Yorkshire and Chesterfield network. Something First should not have got rid of in my opinion.

If i was to choose, it would have to be stagecoach (plus you can also use it on the tram as well as the bus) the only time i use a first is Doncaster.

The reason that stagecoach are cheaper is because they are the smaller company in Sheffield and are trying to get more people on the buses by cheaper fares. I used to drive the buses and on the whole Stagecoach are the better company.

Thats all well and good if you live on a tram route and maybe dont plan to go out in the evening, sundays or bank holidays.

I find that both Stagecoach and First buses are poor. They don't take into consideration that not everyone is 5 feet tall and some people need leg room.
