This is a little embarrasing....

How the frickin hell do you change the text colour of your desktop icons (running XP home).

I've been through pretty much most of the options I can find (including Properties->appearance->advanced). I can see where to change font, and font size, but the colour button is kinda greyed out.

I want to change my wallpaper to a predominantly white white one, but won't be able to see the icon text as it's already white.

I know I've done this before in the past. Jeez, another sign of advancing years....

To change the color you have to diable one of the 'Themes Services'

1. Right click on My Computer, select Properties
2. Select the Advanced tab
3. Then inder Performance click Settings
4. Uncheck the 'Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop' box
5. Then click Apply, OK, OK

Now @ the desktop

6. Right click anywhere on the screen and select properties
7. Choose the Desktop tab
8. In the lower right hand corner choose the color that you would like
choose a light colour, eg white and it'll change the text black

From right click on My Computer I get a window with 2 tabs, "General" and "Shortcut".

Both tabs then have an "advanced" button.

Neither of those advanced options has a "Performance" option.

I'm running XP home.

Click 'Start' then open the 'Control Panel' then open 'System'
you should now be able to continue from step 2 as above.
