I've just had some crab stix & was reading the packet & found that they are made from Surimi....
So I used the net to find out what surimi is
From Wiki
Quote:

Surimi (Chinese: 魚漿; pinyin: yú jiāng; literally "fish puree/slurry",
|
But then it also goes on to say
Quote:
This is an incomplete list of fish used to make surimi:
Milkfish (Chanos chanos)
Swordfish (Xiphias gladius)
Tilapia
(Oreochromis mossambicus)
(Oreochromis niloticus niloticus)
Big-head pennah croaker (Pennahia macrocephalus)
Golden threadfin bream (Nemipterus virgatus)
Cod (Gadus morhua)
Bigeyes (Priacanthus arenatus)
Pacific whiting (Merluccius productus)
Alaska pollock (Theragra chalcogramma)
Various shark species
|

I used to work in a kitchen that sold 'crab flavour fish sticks', which made me laugh.

Gross. Is it the same thing with 'Ocean Pinks'? They are man-made objects that are sold on fish counters.

I knew it was a fish composite, but not how many species are actually involved - and its the word 'slurry'... Really makes me think of sweepings up

Oh, I spared you some of the more esoteric ingredients, you absolutely couldn't believe whats in there and I don't want to get you worried since you just eat some.
But here's an interesting story from a hull processing plant a few years back.
In short there was this guy who was a bit of an asshole and halfway through shift he disappeared, no one reported him missing as no one liked him.
A few weeks later the police showed up asking about the guy, he'd apparently really disappeared.
End of story was he was working the mincing machine and you guessed it, after forensic tests there were human remains in there, but fish being a short lived product what had been minced that day had already been consumed.

The best part is they use the same machines to 'process' dog food and all they do to clean them is hose them down.
You ought to see what's on the conveyor going up to the mincer, lets put it this way, ever had an animal put down, where do you think they send them, and they don't even bother to take the collars off.
