Bit of a point of debate...

Is The Wirral just a part of Liverpool or a separate town?

Someone please explain!

It's a part of Merseyside, but it's not a town and parts of it are actually quite remote so I;'d say no.

the WIRRAL is on the other side of the river from Liverpool therefore it is not part of.
it is a district or area like we in sheffield say Hope Valley which can mean many small different places

The Wirral is over the water and where what I refer to as 'posh plastic scousers' come from. They are the people who when people say scousers are great people, out comes the accent and they claim to be from Liverpool. As soon as someone says scousers are scum they start talking posh saying, "Oh, well I'm from the wirral actually!"

Incidentally, a Mr James Uren who lives on the Wirral is one of the UK's most foremost experts in growing celery. See the link below;

haha!

Thought I'd lost the battle when people started saying it is actually a different place but Beakerzoid seems to have put paid to any further debate!

Much appreciated

By the way, I know a guy who does celery at 3 sticks a tenner. Top south american celery...

Mum's the word...

Part of Wirral is in Merseyside, part in Cheshire. But anyone who was brought up there would know it's really ALL Cheshire because Merseyside is a fabrication of the 1970s - likewise, the north of Merseyside is in fact Lancashire.

It isn't part of Liverpool as a Scouser would tell you.

The Wirral is a geographical feature, a peninsula.

As angle20 indicated, it is a peninsula. A geographical feature. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Liverpool except that it is across the River Mersey from Liverpool and you can see the Liverpool river front from there. Likewise, on the opposite side of the Wirral, you can see Wales across the River Dee.

When I moved near Bebington, on the Wirral in 1978 my post code L63 9YH was a liverpool one. People on the Wirral didn't like this so the council changed them all, so the above is now CH63 9YH. You would think Paul O'Grady is a scouser but he comes from Birkenhead.

The Wirral exists in its own special circle of Hell, populated by a combination of hateful snobs and smackhead thieves.
Sheffield, with all its faults, is like the garden of Eden compared to that hellhole.
If I ever get my hands on some proper military hardware, this country will get considerably lighter.
Am I allowed to say this on here? I feel like I might get in trouble, but it's true, I can assure you.

Administratively, it isn't part of Liverpool, true.

However, much of it is certainly part of Liverpool's city region, and it is generally regarded as an extension of the city in terms of employment patterns; there are two road tunnels, a rail tunnel and a ferry, all helping commuters get from one side of the river to the other every day. Culturally, people on the Wirral treat Liverpool's galleries, concert halls, theatres etc. as their own.

The peninsula's relationship with Liverpool is far more complex than many would have you believe; to say they have nothing to do with each other is rather far fetched. In truth, the two are inextricably linked.

The Wirral is pregnant with promise and anticipation, but is murdered by the hand of the inevitable.

I lived on the Wirral as a child when it was in Cheshire. My two youngest siblings were born there and regard themselves as Cheshire people. Luckily I was born in Yorkshire.

Isn't the Wirral just a place where they breed page three girls?

I have to say that the people I met on the Wirral were all very kind and warm. Maybe you were just unlucky with those you met.
