What do you do and how often do you do it?

I have the 1 click maintenance thing on my main PC but not on the laptop, what should I be doing to keep it tidy?

once every couple of months or so I make an image back up, then I patch it, clean out temp files, defrag it, and suck the dust out of it

I update things like virus scanners and antispyware daily if any updates are available

I also schedule testing of new applications for just after I've done my backups so if I don't like them or if they don't do what I want I go back to the backup I just made

Can you please tell me wot I am doing wrong. Have never been able to back up! I go through the correct process, wizard etc. And the error notice says 'the backup file name could not be used'. (I use 'mydocuments' or 'mysystem') 'Ensure it is a valid path and that you have sufficient access'. Have tried to back up onto E and F drive. I give up!! Thanx.

Ive had this comp for over a year and never formatted it. I do the usual anti virus stuff each week, defrag each month, open the tower up and clean the dust out of it once or twice each year but thats about all.
The rest is just dusting and polishing like any other item in the house.

If I feel the need to I will do a scan for spy/malware.
Make a weekly image using Acronis of my hard drives and a monthly backup to DVD.
Clean inside the PC with compressed air and if needed top up with water once a month.
