I have worked in the shop for 10 yrs so im gutted its shutting, but basically the main reception is being re-done "again" and the "main" charity shop is being turned into a office for 1 person. If you dont know about the childrens hospital charity we sell all sorts of things from theo bears to pencils to shopping bags. Well Im just letting the people who have visited are shop during an appointment with there child to the hospital or going soon that we are having a closing down sale starting prices 25p and 50p for things like pencils rulers and other things. The shop is shutting in febuary sometime but havent been told the exact date. So if you go come and buy something theres some great bargains to be had, the shop is the 3rd one on the left as you go into main reception thanks. All things we sell goes to buy new equipment for the hospital from MRI scanners to toys for the kids. This is our website http://www.sheffieldchildrenshospita...ion/latest.php

I do, and I have used it. What a shame, so do they think its just not worth it? Patty its more like a souvenir shop where you can buy Theo Merchandise and support the hospital.

Its being closed mainly cos this lady who is the patian liason is having her office built there instead. There is other shops bigger than ours which I would of thought would make more sence to to turn into an office, but the big wigs dont think normaly do they lol. But she will be cold anyway as Rose tree cottage (morgue) is directly behind the shop and it does get blasts of cold air in sometimes.

That sounds such a pity. I got to know the morgue well but can't remember the shop. That was years ago though. What are the other shops? Will they be selling any of the Theo merchandise?
You've obviously been very committed to your voluntary work there Jibbs. It must feel like the end of an era.

I dont think the other shops league of friends and the news kiosk will be selling any of our goods and yeah i am gutted cos basically I worked there cos i owe my life to that place if it wasnt for the hospital i wouldnt be able to walk and talk and be where i am now. So 10 yrs ago I decided the best way to say thanks was to work there, I recieved a £20 voucher today to say thanks for everything ive done from all the payed workers in the charity and its funny cos ive been there longer than everyone. But they have said i may be able to help out in the office sometimes but obviously cos of patiant confidentuality I am limited in what i can do but will be able to help in other events but it wont be regular like working at the shop was.

what a shame, i know loads of people who bought their kids the theo teddy to wake up to after surgery. And the helium balloons, I often bought my son one of those during his many hospital visits.
Good on you for volunteering for so long

We were just up there with the girls this week and noticed it was shuting - a real shame. And I don't know why they are redoing the reception area again, I can't see anything wrong with it.

what a shame, my son is a regular to the heamotology clinic and every time we come to the hospital we look in the shop, its nice for the kids to take a theo pencil, rubber, ruler etc back to school and i've bought lots of the trolly coins for friends and family, the handmade cards are lovely too, as always we were greeted by a friendly face, its their loss jibbs, well done and thankyou.

I know the shop very well - have spent a lot of time (and money!) in there with my daughter. Apart from anything else, browsing round it helps make children less nervous about the place - their thoughts get diverted to a couple of little "Theo" treats! I was a bit baffled when I saw that the reception area is being done again - it really isn't that long since that part of the hospital was redeveloped and it all still looks quite new. What's the point of wasting money like that?

I work in the hospital too. Can't understand why they're re-developing that area again. It doesn't look like it needs it at all - and it's a shame the charity shop is going to have to suffer and close for it
